This is the moment a young boy adorably mistakes a dragonfly for a ‘baby helicopter’.
Student Shannon Simms, 21, from West Virginia, was spending some quality time with her nephew Tyler outdoors when he made the interesting observation.
She had been trying to record a funny TikTok of her relative playing around when they were interrupted by the dragonfly.
The young boy had never seen one of the winged insects before, and looked terrified as it curiously flew around him.
Demanding to know was the dragonfly was, he asked Shannon if she ‘had seen the baby helicopter’.
Shannon found his reaction hilarious. She asks him to repeat it when the dragonfly zooms back into shot and he says it ‘looked like a baby helicopter’.

Tyler keeps nervously asking: ‘What is that?’ as the insect flies closer. However, Shannon is left in a helpless fit of giggles by the boy’s suggestion it is a tiny flying machine.
Dragonflies do actually bear some similarities to helicopters in the way they fly, according to scientists.
Slow-motion videos of the insects show that they angle their bodies upward, like a helicopter, when they fly backwards and use their wings to pull back with the same amount of force they use to propel themselves forward.
Dragonflies can also fly upside down, turn 360 degrees almost on the spot, and fly at speeds of more than 55 kilometres per hour.
Dragonflies do actually bear some similarities to helicopters in the way that they fly, angling their bodies upwards in they want to go back on themselves
