Boy, 15, who shot six California high school 'shot himself but survived'

A 15 year-old boy who reportedly shot six people at his high school shot himself but survived his wounds, it has been claimed.

The unnamed suspect is reportedly in custody being treated for a gunshot after Thursday’s shooting at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, California.

Initial reports claimed the boy, who attends Saugus High, had killed himself, with confirmation expected at a press conference at around 1PM EST.

Sheriff Alex Villanueva tweeted: ‘Update regarding the shooting at #SaugusHigh, suspect is in custody and being treated at a local hospital.’

Police, sheriff’s deputies and SWAT teams surrounded his home on Sycamore Drive, around half a mile from the school.

Officials confirmed the boy is ‘no longer a threat’ and that he is not in custody, but have not commented further.

He opened fire at his own school around 8am PST on Thursday morning, just as school was beginning.

Six people are reported to have been injured, all of whom were students. Two of the victims are critically ill.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Office chatted to victims who were still conscious to identify the gunman, and raced to his home shortly afterwards.

Armed officers were seen outside his home, which is now said to have been combed by officers.
