Yellowstone season 4 theories: Kayce and Monica torn apart as actor drops huge clue

Yellowstone: Ryan Bingham discusses character Walker in 2019

Currently filming in Montana, the fourth season of Yellowstone is set to be the Dutton family’s darkest chapter yet after last summer’s horrifying finale. A recent interview from series star Luke Grimes has raised the possibility of yet another split for Kayce and Monica.

Comments from Yellowstone’s Kayce Dutton star Luke Grimes have hinted towards another break-up for Kayce and Monica (played by Kelsey Asbille) after their reconciliation in season two.

Their marriage was on the rocks in the first season, which kicked off with Monica taking a break from like on the ranch.

However, when their son Tate (Brecken Merrill) was kidnapped by the Beck brothers in season two, the traumatic experience surprisingly brought the pair closer together.

Yellowstone regular Luke Grimes recently touched on the couple’s strained relationship over the past instalments when he spoke to Monsters and Critics.

During the interview, he revealed there’ll always be a degree of pressure on the couple raising the Dutton Ranch’s youngest cowhand.

He explained: “I’ve always just thought when I read that storyline and that love story that they’re twin souls.

“They were meant for each other, but the weight of the world has always gotten in the middle. It’s kind of that classic Romeo and Juliet storyline.”

For fans who have brushed up on their Shakespeare, Grimes’ reference to Romeo and Juliet could send alarm bells ringing.

While no one is expecting Kayce and Monica to perish in a tragic double suicide, the star-crossed lovers are nevertheless under constant fire from war on all sides.

Plus, when Yellowstone last left off, Kayce was being advanced upon by gunmen, leaving his fate unknown heading into the fourth season.

Kayce could either be killed or severely wounded at the top of next year’s premiere, leaving Monica just as in the dark about her husband’s condition as the show’s audience.

Tate’s mother may now have no choice but to watch as Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) and the rest of the bunkhouse take revenge on the Duttons’ would-be killers, or even join the crusade.

Even so, Luke Grimes is adamant Kayce and Monica are destined to come back to each other, whatever’s thrown their way when Yellowstone makes its dramatic return.

Grimes continued: “We’ve seen them go through a lot. With Tate disappearing, I was wondering how that was going to affect them.

“I had no idea what to expect before reading season three because it could have gone either way.”

Fans saw for themselves how the couple reignited their old passion following the safe return of their son from the clutches of Malcolm (Neal McDonough) and Teal Beck (Terry Serpico).

The star added: “What we’ll continue to see with them is that there’s such a true love at their core, and at their core, they’re both such good spirits that they’ll always be attracted to each other.”

With the lives of not only Kayce, but John (Kevin Costner) and Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) also at stake, emotions will undoubtedly be running high next year on Yellowstone.

Thankfully, Grimes is convinced Kayce and Monica are destined to remain together, even if that means putting their relationship through the ringer yet again.

Yellowstone will return with season 4 in 2021 on Paramount and Peacock.
