Wonder Woman 1984 – UK release date, trailer, cast and plot – The Sun

WONDER Woman fans have been left more excited than ever for Wonder Woman 1984 since the release of the first movie trailer.

This highly anticipated sequel is out today (December 16).

When is Wonder Woman 2 UK release date? 

Wonder Woman 1984 will be released on December 16, 2020.

Reviews so far have been mixed, but overall positive with many three and four star ratings, plus a high score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The original release date was November 1, 2019, and then it was postponed until June 5, 2020, then again by two months.

Back in 2017, Gal starred in Wonder Woman – Rise of the Warrior which was extremely successful after setting several box office records and becoming the tenth highest-grossing film of 2017.

Is there a trailer for Wonder Woman 2?

The trailer shows an insight into how Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) will battle the Soviet Union and her arch-nemesis – Cheetah (Kristen Wiig) and try to save the world from evil.

In the opening scenes of the trailer, Gal is joined by her arch-nemesis, Cheetah, an archaeologist – who asks her if she's ever been in love.

She replies: "A long, long time ago."

The trailer also shows various action shots of Diana's amazing power, strength and beauty throughout the film as she fights off evil with the help of Steve Trevor (Chris Pine).

She also reignites an old flame with Steve – despite the fact he died in the last film.

Who is in the Wonder Woman 1984 cast?

Gal Gadot (playing Diana Prince)

Wonder Woman – Rise of the Warrior saw Gal step into the famous boots of the iconic superhero.

She is 35-year-old Israeli actress and model who served in the Israeli military for two years from the age of 20 and began modelling in the early 2000s.

Gal was also crowned Miss Israel in 2004 before going on to take part in Miss Universe that same year.

In 2009 she made her film debut in Fast & Furious before going on to star in sequels Fast & Furious 5 (2011) and Fast & Furious 6 (2013). She performed all her own stunts in the films.

Gal also appeared in Keeping Up with the Joneses, Knight and Day and Date Night.

Chris Pine (playing Steve Trevor)

Chris plays Wonder Woman's love interest and confidante Steve Trevor in the franchise.

He is a 37-year-old actor from LA and is best known for playing James T. Kirk in Star Trek.

Chris comes from a distinguished Hollywood family – his parents and grandparents were all involved in showbiz.

While at university he was an exchange student at the University of Leeds.

Chris has also appeared in ER, Into The Woods, Rise of the Guardians, Horrible Bosses 2 among many others.

Kristen Wiig (playing Cheetah)

Kristen plays the villain Cheetah in Wonder Woman 1984 and possesses superhuman strength and agility.

Kristen is an American actress, writer and producer and a former SNL alumnus.

Her first major commercial role was in Bridesmaids in 2011.

She has also appeared in Zoolander 2, The Martian and Ghostbusters.

Kristen was born in Canandaigua, New York in 1973 – making her 44 – and was married to actor Hayes Hargrove from 2005 to 2009.

Pedro Pascal (playing Maxwell Lord)

Pedro plays businessman and media entrepreneur Maxwell in the film, and his character is famous for TV infomercials.

The actor was born in Chile and began his career with appearances in several hit shows such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Good Wife and Homeland.

He was cast in nthe pilot for a 2011 Wonder Woman TV adaptation but the show was never picked up.

The actor is most famous for his role as Oberyn Martell in Game of Thromes and Javier Peña in Netflix series, Narcos.

He has most recently starred as the titular character in Disney's Star Wars spin-off The Mandalorian.

Connie Nielsen (playing Hyppolyta)

Connie stars as the queen of Themyscira (Wonder Woman's homeland) and she is also Diana's mother.

The Danish actress has featured in films such as Gladiator, Mission to Mars and The Hunted.

She nalso starred in popular TV show, The Following.

She has been a part of the DC Extended Universe since 2017 after starring in Wonder Woman and Justice League.

Robin Wright (playing Antiope)

Robin plays Diana's warrior aunt in the film and is no stranger to fans of the big and small screen.

She has starred in iconic films such as Forrest Gump, Unbreakable, Moneyball and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Robin famously starred as Claire Underwood in Netflix's hit show, House of Cards – and she won a Golden Globe for her work in the series.

What will the film be about?

Wonder Woman will battle against the Cheetah, a villainess who possesses super strength and agility.

Director Patty Jenkins has stated that the film will be standalone, rather than a sequel.

Jenkins has confirmed that the second Wonder Woman instalment will follow a different story than the first.
