Why Meghan McCain Walked Off 'The View'

There’s no doubt that The View is one of the most controversial daytime talk shows in history. From sudden firings to heated shouting matches, the drama has arguably overshadowed the show itself.

But you’ve probably never seen things get as intense as this. During the Sept. 20 episode, Meghan McCain got so upset over something that she stormed off the set of The View. Here’s what happened.

McCain had just gotten into a fiery argument

According to NBC News, the hosts were discussing a recent whistleblower complaint against President Donald Trump when they started to clash over their conflicting views. In case you missed it, an official in the American intelligence community recently raised alarms about a conversation Trump had with a foreign leader. (The president has denied any wrongdoing.)

In a video from the latest show, McCain seemingly tried to compare the whistleblower’s revelation to the actions of Julian Assange. (Assange is the founder of WikiLeaks, which publishes news leaks and classified information, including emails from Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee.)

The conservative host said that liberals were OK with Assange’s leaks, but are “screaming bloody murder right now about this whistleblower.”

“I think all interference from a foreign country in our election, all of it is bad and should be condemned and you can’t play party politics with this, and there’s a lot of people on the left who are doing that with Julian Assange,” McCain said (via The Hill).

“There’s a lot of people on the left that are OK with Julian Assange but aren’t OK with this whistleblower,” she added. “There are a lot of people in this country, and a lot of people on the hard left that defend Julian Assange.”

The conversation grew heated

As the hosts mulled over and shared their opinions on McCain’s remarks, she chimed back in, attempting to clarify her comments.

“Excuse me, maybe I was clumsy in the way that I said it!” she interjected.

But the women continued talking, with McCain eventually yelling, “Excuse me!”

Guest host Ana Navarro replied, “Don’t scream at me. I’m two feet away.” The comments drew loud gasps from the audience.

“I don’t know what you just said,” said McCain, who had continued to speak as Navarro started talking.

“I said don’t scream at me. I’m two feet away,” the host repeated.

“You know what…that’s so rude, Ana,” McCain said as Joy Behar announced that the show was heading into a commercial break.

As the camera panned around the room, McCain got up from the table and stormed backstage.

She later appeared to reference the moment on her Twitter account, writing, “Another day. Another drama.”

McCain is often at the center of controversy

Just weeks ago, McCain faced backlash over a discussion she had on The View with Pamela Anderson. The host had been grilling the actress over her support of Assange, whom McCain describes as a cyberterrorist and threat to national security.

“You know who put our national security at risk? The military. How many people have the American government killed innocently and how many has Wikileaks?” Anderson shot back.

The comments prompted cheers from the audience, with one person yelling louder than the others.

“Oh calm down sir,” McCain snapped.

After the segment, many people took to Twitter to call for McCain’s firing.

“How has she not been fired?” a Twitter user asked.

“This is like the second clip this week where she seems to be pissy with the crowd. She’s somehow becoming more insufferable than before,” commented another.

But, unfortunately for them, McCain likely isn’t going anywhere.
