MOTHERFATHERSON is a  BBC Two drama with a star-studded cast, created and written by Tom Rob Smith.

Hollywood actor Richard Gere is returning to TV to play the father, but who else is in it?

Who’s in the MotherFatherSon cast?

So far just the three main cast members have been announced. More are expected in due course. Here's who we know so far…

Richard Gere

Richard Gere is playing Max – a charismatic self-made American businessman with media outlets in London and around the world.

Speaking about being part of the drama, Richard said: “It’s been almost 30 years since I worked in television.

“I’m so pleased to be working now with the BBC on this extraordinary 8 hour project with such talented people and which resonates so much to the time we live in.”

Richard, 68, is a hugely successful movie actor, who is well loved for his roles in films such as Pretty Woman, Runaway Bride and An Officer and a Gentleman.

Helen McCrory

Helen McCrory is taking on the role of British heiress Kathryn in the drama.

Her character has been estranged from Max following the breakdown of their marriage some years before.

She said of her part: “Tom Rob Smith has written the most astonishing script – completely original and full of surprises."

The 49-year-old is married to Damian Lewis in real life, and is known for being in Peaky Blinders, Harry Potter and Skyfall, to name a few.

Sarah Lancashire

Sarah Lancashire is playing Angela Howard, a businesswoman turned MP.

The actress, 53, started her TV career in Coronation Street, playing ditsy barmaid Raquel.

Since then, she has starred in Where the Heart Is, Clocking Off, The Glass, Last Tango in Halifax, Happy Valley and Kiri.

Sinéad Cusack

Sinéad Cusack will take on the role of a 'renegade' journalist called Maggie, alongside Paul Ready.

The pair work at the newspaper that Richard Gere's character Max owns.

Sinéad is well known for her roles in Call the Midwife, Marcella and Jekyll & Hyde.

Billy Howle

Rising star Billy is playing Richard and Helen’s onscreen son Caden.

Caden is at the centre of the drama as he spirals out of control, causing repercussions for the whole family.

The 28-year-old actor is fast becoming one of the most in demand stars on TV.

His roles include Glue, Witness for the Prosecution and On Chesil Beach.

He is very excited about being part of the show, saying: “I feel humbled to be given the opportunity to portray such a complex role with such a specific set of challenges, for me as a person and an actor.

“I really hope that I can do it justice. And what better people to be collaborating with?! I can’t wait to get going.”

When does MotherFatherSon start on BBC Two?

There is currently no release date for MotherFatherSon on BBC Two.

It will start shooting this summer in London and on location in Spain.

There will be eight hour long episodes of the original drama, which has been created and written by Tom Rob Smith.

What is MotherFatherSon about?

MotherFatherSon is a political and psychological thriller focusing on the three family members, Max and Kathryn and their 30-year-old son Caden.

When Caden’s self-destructive lifestyle spirals out of control, the devastating consequences threaten the future of the family, its empire, and a country on the brink of change.
