Who is Miguel Ferrer? What was his early life?

Miguel Ferrer was born on 7 February 1955 in Santa Monica, California.

He grew up in Hollywood and he is the oldest of five children of Academy Award–winner José Ferrer and singer Rosemary Clooney.

He is the cousin of actor George Clooney and the nephew of journalist Nick Clooney.

What was his early career?

Miguel began his career in the early 1980s making guest appearances on TV shows.

He once played the younger self of his father's character on Magnum P.I in 1981.

He had a major role in the 1987 action movie RoboCop as aspiring, cocaine-snorting corporate executive Bob Morton.

Following this role, he then went on to often play the villain in films.

What was he most known for?

In the early 1990’s he played FBI forensics specialist Albert Rosenfield in Twin Peaks, he later reprised the role for the movie Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992).

He also featured in the last series of Desperate Housewives.

More recently he had a recurring role in NCIS: Los Angeles .

He also featured in many movies, including Iron Man 3 and Robot Chicken.

Was he close to his cousin George Clooney?

Yes. He and George remained close up until his death.

George released this statement after he passed away, in which he referenced Donald Trump’s inauguration and vowed to “always love” his cousin: “Today history will mark giant changes in our world, and lost to most will be that on the same day Miguel Ferrer lost his battle to throat cancer. But not lost to his family.”

He continued: “Miguel made the world brighter and funnier and his passing is felt so deeply in our family that events of the day, (monumental events), pale in comparison,” Clooney continued. “We love you Miguel. We always will.”

How did he die?

Miguel passed away following a battle with throat cancer on 19 January 2017.

He was surrounded by family and close friends.

Miguel, who had sons Lukas and Rafi with wife Lori, was given the option of bowing out of NCIS last year when his condition worsened, but he declined.

When the illness began to affect his voice, the show writers incorporated the disease into his storylines

The programme’s showrunner, R. Scott Gemmill, paid tribute to the “tremendous talent” and “huge heart” of the actor.

He told People in a statement: “Today, NCIS: Los Angeles lost a beloved family member.

“Miguel was a man of tremendous talent who had a powerful dramatic presence on screen, a wicked sense of humour, and a huge heart. Our thoughts go out to his wife Lori, his sons, and his entire family. He will be greatly missed.”

Did he film the new series of Twin Peaks before he died?

Yes he did.

Miguel will be seen in the new rival of Twin Peaks, where he reprised his role of Albert Rosenfield.

The two-hour premiere will be simulcast on Sky Atlantic on Monday May 22 2017 at 2am.

It will then be repeated at 9pm on Tuesday May 23.
