Despite her young age Carol bagged the job and appeared on Countdown with Richard Whiteley from 1982 until his death in June 2005.

She then carried on alongside Des Lynam then Des O'Connor until 2008.

She was replaced by Rachel Riley who has equally caused quite a stir in the role.
