White Lines is a new 10-part series landing on Netflix today (Friday, May 15) full of sun, sex and murder. The compelling new drama has been hailed as the hit of the summer – and here’s why you should be binging it this weekend.

If there’s one thing you can expect from the creator of Money Heist, it’s a lot of fun.

And Álex Pina’s new Netflix series is full of it, from the moment viewers step into the sun-soaked shots of Ibiza.

The new 10-part series follows Zoe Walker (played by Laura Haddock) as she is called to identify the body of her brother Axel Collins (Tom Rhys Harries) who disappeared 20 years previously.

Not keen to just accept his death, she heads to Ibiza to try and piece together what happened to him and who is responsible for his murder.

  • White Lines cast: Who is in the cast of White Lines?

Here she is sucked into the intoxicating lives of her brother’s friends on the island full of all-night parties and cocaine-filled banana boats.

This is told alongside another timeline of Axel’s glory days in the Nineties full of heady drugs and polygamy.

As the two timelines intersect, viewers are taken on a journey of murder mystery and self-discovery.

Capturing the feeling of the two periods and the allure of the island, the show reveals in fun from its booming soundtrack to its sunset-coloured filter painting every shot.

And there’s a lot of fun to be had here when Pina really leans into the intoxicating and seedy atmosphere of the island which oozes through the camera.

But there is also a lot of heart thanks to its stellar cast compiled across both timelines.

This features everyone from Daniel Mays as a drug dealer clinging to his glory days to Marta Milans as a wayward daughter returning to her hugely dysfunctional family.

Then there’s the chemistry between Laura Haddock’s Zoe and Nuno Lopes’ Boxer which will keep viewers hooked on every scene.

Then there is the joy of seeing Spanish-language talent from similar projects as Netflix fully commits to the bilingual drama with stars like Juan Diego Botto and Belén López.

However, it’s fair to say the show isn’t perfect and can be downright confusing at times thanks to Pina’s joy of flashbacks and intersecting timelines.

This also leads to a frustrating narrative device where Zoe calls her therapist back in Manchester in a voiceover which adds very little to the story.

When the series drops this and focuses the intoxicating journey of self-discovery Zoe finds herself on, it works best.
