When Is the 'I Am Jazz' Season 6 Premiere?

I Am Jazz first premiered in 2015, and has successfully captured and broadened the hearts and minds of American viewers since day one. The TLC reality show follows Jazz Jennings transgender woman navigating her teenage years as she embraces herself and aims to show the world what life is like through her eyes.

After Season 5 ended in March, with Jazz undergoing her gender confirmation surgery, fans were left hungry for more. Jazz has struck a chord with many viewers, whether they identify as trans or not, and they’re eager to see where Jazz goes next, and what she’ll accomplish. So when does Season 6 premiere? The wait might be shorter than you thought.

Jazz Jennings defers Harvard attendance

On Tuesday, May 14, Jazz Jennings announced that she’d been accepted to Harvard on Instagram. Jazz captioned a photo of herself wearing a Harvard sweater with, “I am so stoked for this next chapter of my life! Feeling so blessed and grateful right now. Thank you so much to my incredible family for your unconditional love and support; none of this would be possible without all of you. I can’t wait for what’s to come!”

Fans, of course, were thrilled for Jazz, who has worked tirelessly over the years to raise awareness for trans people on the global and national stage. One fan wrote, “I’ve been following you ever since you first aired. Thank you for opening up on your journey! Congrats on Harvard! You deserve it!!”

Another user added, “Congratulations Jazz, enjoy your college years, they are wonderful. Stay true to yourself.”

Unfortunately, it seems Jazz felt the need to defer her attendance for a year. A source informed Radar Online that Jazz has been dealing with a combination of depression, anxiety, and the pressure of fame. “Jazz hasn’t been herself for months now. She was not in the right position to be starting school and living on her own,” said the source.

Jazz previously told Thrive Global, “It’s also a place where I can feel that anxiety and depression to an even greater degree than I do now, because there’s so much going on all the time. You want to be involved in everything, but school’s stressful in and of itself. I’ll be studying for tests and exams and trying to be the best I can be. In high school, I always got straight As, because I put that pressure on myself.”

Will Season 6 be the shortest yet?

Amid Jazz Jennings’ decision to defer Harvard for now, there’s a rumor that Season 6 of I Am Jazz will also be the shortest season yet. The same source informed Radar Online, “Season 6 is the shortest season yet. It’s down four episodes compared to the last.”

It could be the case that, as Jazz Jennings faces the difficulties that come with fame and the pressure to succeed, the show will shorten its seasons, or gradually peter out. After all, Jazz is still a young woman with school obligations in the future, friends to hang out with, and all the other stuff that comes with being a teen.

Alternatively, it could just be that there was a little less to film this season. Time will tell, but either way, Season 6 is closer to premiering than you may have thought.

When will Season 6 premiere?

President and general manager of TLC, Howard Lee, recently confirmed Season 6 with The Wrap. He told the publication, “Jazz is the quintessential example of living authentically and embracing one’s true self and that is what TLC seeks to celebrate in all of our programming.”

“Jazz’s story has inspired viewers across America, and never more so than this past year during the most important moment of her life. We are proud that Jazz and her family have allowed TLC to follow along on her journey and we look forward with great excitement to sharing the next chapter of her life with our devoted audience,” he added.

Jazz Jennings herself posted a family picture to Instagram, and captioned it, “I am Jazz is back!! Season 6 of #IamJazz will be returning to @tlc on January 28th at 9 p.m.”

So there you have it, fans! I Am Jazz will officially be back on the air with new episodes on January 28, at 9 p.m. Don’t forget to tune in!
