When Do Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Move to Frogmore Cottage?

With a baby on the way, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are getting ready for the next season of their lives — starting with a new home base. Right now, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex reside at Kensington Palace in Nottingham Cottage, but soon they will move to the countryside to raise their baby away from the hustle and bustle of London and royal family headquarters.

In late 2018, Kensington Palace released a statement regarding the move, explaining the key reason for the move. “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will move to Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Estate early next year as they prepare for the arrival of their first child.” However, some suggest the move also has to do with an alleged separation between them and Prince William and Kate Middleton. Prior to the move announcement, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were supposed to move into the main living area of Kensington Palace, where Prince William and Kate Middleton’s family live full-time. The change in plans caused a bit of controversy and rumor suggesting that the brothers and sisters-in-law aren’t getting along.

Frogmore Cottage

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new home, Frogmore Cottage is on the grounds of Windsor Estate (just down the road from Windsor Castle, where they said “I do” last spring). The home was a gift from Queen Elizabeth II — who is obviously very excited about her newest great-grandbaby. But, while it will soon serve as the Sussex family home, it’s allegedly not move-in ready yet.

Before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex got their hands on the home, it served as staff housing and, therefore, was split into five separate units. In order to make it their dream space, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have started a huge renovation project to turn the five unit space into a 10-bedroom mansion. Much like the house, the queen is covering the cost of the multi-million dollar project. Once completed, it will include a nursery for baby Sussex, a gym and yoga studio for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s daily workouts, and will likely have a big, beautiful kitchen so that the Duchess of Sussex can cook all her favorite homemade meals.

So, when do Prince Harry and Meghan Markle move to Frogmore Cottage? The Sun reports it could be very soon, as they plan to be out of Nottingham Cottage in the early months of 2019. Because Nottingham Cottage is one bedroom, the couple likely wants to move to their new estate home ahead of baby, so that they have the extra room and don’t need the stress of moving with a newborn.

A Windsor childhood

Raising their first-born (and any future children) in Windsor means a much quieter — read: normal —upbringing away from the limelight that Kensington Palace offers. Meghan Markle will likely get to shop at the grocery store (much like Kate Middleton does when she stays at her country home) like she used to. In addition, their son or daughter will have plenty of room to run around and play, as Windsor Estate has large greens and plenty of space to explore.

Moving to Windsor also means that Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and their baby can spend more time with Prince Philip and the queen. Now that they are in their 90s, the two spend a lot more time there (Prince Philip basically lives there full-time), so regular visits are likely in the Sussex family’s future.
