WAYNE Rooney has secretly flown home to the UK for a “physical and mental break”.

It comes after wife Coleen told pals she’s moving back here before his US football contract is up.

The ex-Manchester United ace, 33, landed on Sunday to spend three days with his family before he’s expected to return to Washington today.

His surprise break caused uproar among DC United fans as the MLS side lost 2-0 in his absence. Coach Ben Olsen said: “It’s time to give him a mental and physical break. There are signs of wear and tear, some little niggling things.”

The Sun exclusively revealed Coleen, 33, was returning to the UK over the summer holidays

Wayne’s sudden decision to fly back to spend time with her and their four sons Kai, nine, Klay, six, Kit, three, and 17-month-old Cass came after she admitted she wanted to return sooner than planned.

A source said: “Coleen wants to come back six months earlier than planned. She hates the idea of the family being apart, but wants her sons settled.”

Coleen has relished being back with family and pals – enjoying a boozy holiday in Ibiza and a night out in Manchester with pals on Sunday.
