Virgin River season 3 theories: Jack and Mel wedding ‘sealed’ as fans expose book clue
Virgin River: Alexandra Breckenridge stars in season two teaser
Netflix’s popular small town romance will soon be returning for a third season after last year’s jaw-dropping finale. After Mel Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) finally confessed her love to Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson), could they eventually tie the knot when Virgin River returns?
Fans of Netflix’s hit romance Virgin River may have to wait some time before the confirmed third season finally hits screens.
However, the ongoing hiatus has given viewers another chance to delve into Robyn Carr’s epic series of romance novels, which the television adaptation is based on.
With new episodes not expected to hit screens until much later in 2021, fans have been keeping busy by speculating what’s next for Jack and Mel.
Over on Reddit, one viewer asked: “Don’t Jack and Mel get married in the books?”

A happy wedding would certainly tie up the series nicely, but, with no sign of a fourth season just yet, it’s unclear when exactly this could occur.
Moreover, Carr has just released her long-awaited 22nd entry in the series, Return to Virgin River, following an eight year gap since the last instalment.
Although it’s unclear exactly how the story of the novels will be adapted as the Netflix series continues, the scope of the source material ensures there’s plenty of content to mine as Virgin River continues.
As the streaming platform has confirmed a third season is on the way, but haven’t ordered a fourth outing yet, fans are understandably concerned how and when Jack and Mel will conclude their complex romance.
Of course, the sound of wedding bells are high on most fans’ wish lists for season, but a number of factors could prevent this from becoming reality.
Major spoilers ahead – in Carr’s original novels, Jack and Mel do eventually tie the knot.
Unfortunately, Jack’s recovery from a mysterious gunshot wound could put a stop to any impending wedding plans in the next season.
Plus, his former friend with benefits, Charmaine Roberts (Lauren Hammersley), is always on hand to stir up trouble for the happy couple.

In the newest instalment, she discovered her pregnancy was actually with twins, and there’s still a debate on whether Jack could be the father.
Jack and Mel have already become an iconic TV pairing over Virgin River’s first two seasons, but the latest twists could prevent them from sealing the deal with a proposal.
The same Reddit user speculated: “I read something a while back that they wanted to go slow and not jump their story too much ahead because we’d miss too many good moments.
“I’m taking that as marriage and children… I’m an old fashioned romantic. I need to see a wedding. If nothing else I need to see that.”
While an awe-inspiring 22-season show to fully adapt Carr’s entire series is not out of the question, Virgin River would have to maintain its popularity for well over two decades to make this a reality.
Therefore, Netflix may decide to fast-track some of the most pivotal moments from the source material to ensure fans aren’t disappointed if the series is cancelled or cut short.
Hopefully Jack can make a speedy recovery at the start of season three, with his engagement to Virgin River’s new nurse Mel just over the horizon.
Virgin River season 2 is available to stream on Netflix.
