While it looks like Bjorn Ironside (played by Alexander Ludwig) was killed in the final episode of the show’s first half, the bigger shock involved Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick).
During the final season, Lagertha was struck down in error by Hvitserk (Marco Ilso).
The youngster was unfortunately suffering the effects of some hallucinogenics, leaving him to see Lagertha as a giant snake beast.
This vision prompted Hvitserk to stab the beast – really Lagertha – killing the queen of Kattegat.

However, could Lagertha’s death have been a fake out?
Viewers are used to seeing members of the Vikings show come and go without explanation, and Lagertha could be the same.
While viewers certainly saw her being killed off by Hvitserk, it was during an odd hallucination.
Hvitserk later went on to be with Ivar the Boneless (Alexander Hogh Andersen) to take down Kattegat once and for all.

So then, could Lagertha have merely been severely injured, and instead faked her death so the opposition wouldn’t be aware of her existence?
It was beginning to become clear that Lagertha was eager to stop fighting, so she may have well faked her death to continue her life elsewhere.
Although this is a nice thought, viewers did also see her funeral take place – so could she have found some sort of body-double to take her place?
Meanwhile, it has been hinted series regular King Alfred (Ferdia Walsh Peelo) would be making a return in the upcoming second half of the season.
Alfred actor Ferdia recently posted an image of himself as the king with a brand new look.
He captioned the image: “Vikings 6B hitting your screens later this year. Be prepared for the wrath of Alfred 2.0! Photo brought to you by the legend @alexhoeghandersen face work by the divine @puffjockey.”
Fans instantly began speaking out about the photo, and suggested it spelled an upcoming team-up with Ivar.
One wrote: “Hail king Alfred! go kill ivar the boneless…”
