A TV host literally laughed at Meghan Markle after the shocking revelation in her new podcast Archetypes about baby Archie’s nursery catching on fire during their tour in South Africa.

She shared the story while speaking with tennis legend Serena Williams on her long-awaited new Spotify podcast on Tuesday in the first episode, titled The Misconception of Ambition.

The pair were discussing the double standards women face when they are labelled ‘ambitious’, while also sharing the struggles they have felt as new mothers, as Meghan opened up about the terrifying incident she faced in 2019 when Archie was only four-and-a-half months old.

After hearing the shocking story, Today show host Karl Stefanovic actually laughed it off.

He scoffed to his co-host Allison Langdon: ‘So, just to get this right, the baby is, what, not even there?’

‘No… the nanny had taken the baby from the room before the fire ignited,’ she replied.

‘But… so then, the baby’s not there when the fire catches, right? And because the baby wasn’t there, she was going to have difficulties going to a function? Oh, my God,’ Karl added before rolling his eyes.

He then burst into laughter as Allison showed some sympathy, calling Meghan a ‘new mum’, but Karl rolled his eyes are replied: ‘You are a woman who says “Grow a set,” that’s what you say normally.’

This comes after broadcaster Piers Morgan slammed Meghan’s story, tweeting: ‘He wasn’t even in the room & nobody was harmed. Can you imagine the Queen whining about having to an an engagement in this circumstance?

‘Markle’s victimhood knows no bounds, nor does her thirst to trash the royals whilst making $$$ from them. It’s shameless & pathetic.’

The Duchess of Sussex revealed the story in the highly anticipated first episode of her long-awaited Spotify podcast, more than a year after landing a deal with the streaming service alongside husband Prince Harry.

She explained that right after giving a speech at the Nyanga township in their first official visit of the trip, Meghan said she and Prince Harry were given some horrifying news.

‘There’s been a fire at the residence. There’s been a fire in the baby’s room,’ the Duchess recalled.

Meghan told Serena how a heater caught on fire in the room Archie was supposed to be sleeping in and said there was no smoke detector but that someone who smelt smoke down the hallway went in and extinguished the fire.

Meghan added: ‘Our amazing nanny Lauren…was in floods of tears. She was supposed to put Archie down for his nap and she just said, you know what, let me go and get a snack from downstairs.’

Fortunately Lauren took Archie with her – tying him to her back with a mudcloth – and in that same amount of time the fire broke out.

Meghan continued: ‘Everyone’s in tears, everyone is shaking. And what did we have to do? Go out and do another official engagement.

‘I said, “this doesn’t make any sense”, could you just tell people what happened?”‘
