Top Boy ending: Is Jermaine in Top Boy alive? Did Jermaine die?
Black Mirror star Ashley Thomas first appeared as Jermaine in season two of Top Boy back in 2013 when he was kidnapped by Sully (played by Kane Robinson). Six years later, Jermaine is high up in the East London drug network and is desperate to take down Sully on Summerhouse. What happened to Jermaine at the end of Top Boy remains pretty ambiguous. Is Jermaine in Top Boy alive?
Everything came to a head in the Top Boy season finale, with Dushane (Ashley Walters) and Sully going to war with Jermaine (Ashley Thomas), Jamie (Micheal Ward) and the London Fields gang.
In the penultimate episode, Sully and Dushane had taken hostage Jermaine’s supplier Lizzie (Lisa Dwan) but their whereabouts were uncovered and they were ambushed by Modie (David Omoregie) and co.
Jermaine (Ashley Thomas) approached Sully and Dushane’s most loyal dealer, Dris (Shone Romulus) offering him more money to work for him, so he could provide for his daughter.
However, part of the deal was that Dris gave up Sully and Dushane’s whereabouts.
WHO PLAYS JASON IN TOP BOY?
Dris gave in to the deal and in episode nine, Sully, Dushane and Lizzie narrowly escaped death after a shootout with Modie at their hideout spot.
Modie found Lizzie hiding upstairs in the apartment and took her hostage and in episode 10, she was left in the hands of Jermaine.
For now, it remains open to interpretation if Jermaine set up Modie up to fall.
He organised for Modie to attend a doctor’s appointment for his eye, which was healing from an attack in prison.
Whilst Modie was returning on his way home from the doctor, he was shot dead by police who had been trying to capture him for days.
IS DRIS REALLY DEAD?
Unaware Modie was dead, in his absence, Jamie and Lizzie saw their perfect opportunity to escape from Jermaine.
Jamie pretended to make a cup of tea for Jermaine but instead of handing him the mug, he threw the cup of boiling water over him.
A violent struggle then broke out between the two, with Jamie pulling out a knife on his old friend. However, Jermaine overpowered his opponent, knocking him to the ground.
Luckily, Lizzie was quick enough to pick up the knife and stabbed Jermaine in the back, causing him to fall to the ground.
As Jermaine lay on the floor, his eye caught the television screen which was breaking the news that Modie had been shot dead by police in East London.
The last Top Boy viewers saw of Jermaine was the character shouting: “Modie’s dead bruv.”
Whether the knife made it through Jermaine’s bulky jacket and did any actual harm remains unknown but for the rest of the final episode, he was nowhere to be seen.
WHAT HAPPENED AT THE END OF TOP BOY?
When his whereabouts were questioned, Jamie said: “We ain’t gonna hear from Jermaine no more.”
If Jamie is dead, he leaves behind his son Dillion and his girlfriend.
However, it is also possible he took the opportunity of Modie being dead to escape his old life with his family.
The Top Boy finale came to an incredible end that left viewers wanting more.
Dris (Shone Romulus) may be dead after he was shot by Sully and Dushane asked Jamie, who is serving 20 years in prison, to work with him on the outside.
He was even willing to help Jamie get out of prison, by sharing with his lawyer the CCTV which proves the gun and drugs did not belong to Jermaine.
The biggest twist of all came when Sarah (Isla Jackson-Ritchie) and her drug-using companion turned out to be undercover officers investigating Dushane and his drug network the entire time.
One Top Boy fan wrote on Twitter: “THAT TOP BOY ENDING OMG.”
Another wrote: “that ending in top boy was a mad plot twist they best do another season.”
A third fan commented: “Gotta be more episodes of top boy after that ending.”
At the moment, it remains unknown whether there will be another season of Top Boy but judging by the shocking cliffhanger ending, another season is very possible.
