Tiger King movie in the works with Orlando Bloom 'wanted for Joe Exotic'

A film inspired by the Netflix series Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness is reportedly in the works.

The docuseries focuses on the bizarre underworld of big cat breeders in America.

Studio 20th Century Fox apparently already have the perfect star in mind to play zoo keeper Joe Exotic, the subject of Tiger King.

According to The Sun, they want Lord of the Rings star Orlando Bloom for the lead role.

While talks about the project are in the very early stages, producers are said to be hopeful they can get Orlando on board.

Filming currently can’t get off the ground due to the coronavirus pandemic, but that hasn’t stopped 20th Century Fox from making plans.

An insider said: ‘All filming is on lockdown at the moment but the studios are exploring projects they can get going on as soon as possible and they think Tiger King is the perfect story.

‘Discussions about a movie have only just started but they believe the idea has legs, especially if they get a big star like Orlando on board. They think he could really bring Joe to life on screen.’

However Joe has other ideas as he previously called for Brad Pitt to play him on the big screen.

Tiger King creators Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaikin told The Hollywood Reporter they had spoken to Joe, who is serving a 22-year jail sentence for attempted murder.

‘He would like Brad Pitt or David Spade to play him,’ Rebecca revealed.

‘He doesn’t refer to David Spade as David Spade — he refers to him as “Joe Dirt.”’

Joe Dirt is one of Spade’s biggest movies, in which he also sported the kind of mullet that Joe Exotic would be proud of.

Metro.co.uk has contacted 20th Century Fox for comment.

Tiger King is available to stream on Netflix.
