This Morning hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby welcomed Nicola Thorp and Matthew Wright onto the show to chat about the latest news. Talk turned to Donalf Trump, who has revealed he has been taking hydroxychloroquine to prevent coronavirus.
After watching a clip of the President chatting about taking the drug, Phillip quipped: “Well, he is still with us…sadly.”
Matthew could be seen shooting a shocked look at the camera and Nicola was left open-mouthed by the comment.
However, after a quick giggle, Phillip moved on to see what his guests thought of the President’s decision.
But viewers picked up on the remark and took to Twitter to comment, with one tweeting: “Did Phillip Schofield just wish death on the President of the United States?”

Another added: “@Schofe what happened to be kind? Saying unfortunately a person is still here? #ThisMorning.”
A third posted: “@thismorning think @Schofe comment regarding @realDonaldTrump is disgusting and he should be made to make an apology or he shouldn’t be on the TV anymore as these comments are not acceptable #ThisMorning.”
“‘He still here, Sadly” – Phil Schofield about Trump,’” someone else shared.
“Erm…. strange comment. And now they are asking Matthew Wright about it Donald Trump. Christ almighty!!”
However, Phillip has since taken to Twitter to clarify he did not wish the President dead.
He told his 4.5 million fans: “Still in OFFICE!! Not still alive FFS!!!”
Earlier in the show, Phillip quizzed Professor Karol Sikora, who raised eyebrows on Twitter earlier this week when he said a coronavirus vaccine might not be needed.
Phillip was keen to hear more about his remarks and what it would mean for the country.

Professor Sikora explained: “The whole entry system to the NHS has come to a halt and it’s just beginning to pick up.
“It’s a challenge to try and sort this out, which is why some positivity is really necessary because the vaccine, it’ll come, there’s no doubt.
“And when it comes, it’ll be fine but all the factors look as though things are changing with the pathogen and with us, as society.
“I’ve looked at the literature as to why pandemics end. In the past obviously there were no vaccines… they tend to follow the routes of travel.”

Commenting on the plague, he added: “It ended in a piffle, it just went ‘poof’ and went.
“The military metaphor would be, ‘We’re going to blast this virus and get it out.’ Mr Trump would love that.
“It’s not going to be like that, it’s just going to die quietly and go away.
“The question is, how much is society willing to take the risk to actually start moving out?”
It was this remark which shocked Phillip as he shut down the Professor by demanding to know: “How much of society is it going to take with it before it dies out?”
This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10am.
