The Yorkshire Vet is a popular Channel 5 documentary series that follows the working lives of veterinarians Peter Wright and Julian Norton. Throughout the series, Peter and Julian are seen attending to animals in need at their practices based in North Yorkshire. In a recent interview, Julian opened up about his clients, explaining that some are camera shy, while others are “desperate” to get on the show.
Julian was first featured on the show when he was working as a junior partner at Skeldale in Yorkshire but has since left the veterinary practice.
He has since set up his own independent vet practice in Wetherby.
In a recent interview, The Yorkshire Vet star described his varying clients, explaining that some are more keen than others when it comes to appearing on TV.
When asked if his clients were ever disappointed if he turns up without cameras, Julian replied: “So they fall into about three categories really.
“One bunch definitely don’t want to be on telly and, you know, would say ‘no absolutely not’.
“Then there’s about a third that are ambivalent and don’t mind too much.
“Sometimes maybe they need a little bit of persuading, but generally haven’t got any great objections.
“And then there’s the third camp who’re actively desperate to get on telly, who you know turn up with makeup on, with the hair all done.
“You know, almost pushing their cute cat to the front of the waiting room to get in the shot,” the Channel 5 star joked.
“They tend not to overlap. They tend to be those kinds of characters,” he added.
Julian explained that he can often quickly tell who is going to want to be on camera and who isn’t so keen.
He explained that his clients that want to be on-screen, do so because of their passion for their animals.
He remarked: “If you’re passionate about your farm or your animals that you nature and look after or if you totally love your cat more than anything in the world, that comes across.
“That’s what makes the, you know, the colour of the characters really,” he told the Royal Television Society.
He also praised the variety of personalities you find in Yorkshire, noting that if the show had been set in another part of the country it could have been very different.
Julian explained that Yorkshire has a lot to offer, including a diverse mix of scenery and people.
As well as appearing on The Yorkshire Vet, Julian also recently lent his animal knowledge to Summer on the Farm.
He joined hosts Helen Skelton and Jules Hudson as they presented the show live from Cannon Hall Farm in Yorkshire.
Julian will be heading back there next month over the August Bank Holiday weekend, as he takes part in 5 on the Farm Festival.
The three-day event will feature a number of other Channel 5 stars and attendees can get involved in a range of farming themed activities.
