The Witcher’s Henry Cavill reveals former co-star Tom Cruise inspired him to do his own stunts on Netflix show – The Sun

HENRY Cavill has revealed that Tom Cruise inspired him to do his own stunts in The Witcher.

Henry, 37, who starred alongside Tom in Mission: Impossible – Fallout in 2018, has spoken about how working with the Hollywood legend helped massively.

During a virtual chat with Sir Patrick Stewart for Variety‘s Actors on Actors issue, Henry spoke about his recent role as Geralt of Rivia.

“You did a lot of your own stunts, didn’t you?” Sir Patrick asked him about the Netflix show, to which Henry replied: “I did, yes. For me, when it comes to that kind of thing like stunts, I’ve always enjoyed doing the physical stuff.”

“Working with Tom Cruise really helped — or maybe, in the eyes of the producers, made worse my enjoyment for stunts.

“I really want to do them now, and I think it’s an essential piece to the character. If an audience is watching Geralt on-screen, they must believe that it is me.

“If it’s not me, I feel like I’ve betrayed the character in some way, and so I try and do as much as a production will let me,” he added.

Henry went on to speak about how landing the role of Superman in 2013 had a massive impact on what followed.

“It’s something I’ve always been incredibly grateful for. I’ve always been a fan of Superman,” he told Sir Patrick.

“With a character like that, you carry the mantle with you off set. And it becomes part of your public representation.

“When you meet children, children don’t necessarily see me as Henry Cavill, but they might see Superman, and there’s a responsibility which comes with that.

“Because it’s such a wonderful character, it’s actually a responsibility I’m happy to have, and I hope that I get to play more of Superman in years to come.”

He continued: “My life has changed dramatically because of it. And it has given me plenty of opportunity for roles, and yeah, it’s been one of those characters which changed the entire course of my career.

“I’m incredibly grateful for it, and it’s also taught me a lot about myself.”

Meanwhile, The Witcher has been confirmed for a second season with promises Gerald of Rivia will "change and shift" Princess Ciri's life.

While Witcher Geralt is not Ciri's (played by Freya Allan) father, the pair share a close bond, and this will further be explored as their plotlines come together in the next instalment, said showrunner Lauren S Hissrich.

She told The Wrap: "What I think is really fun about Geralt and Ciri is they are the most unexpected family you can imagine.

"You have a witcher whose sole job is to kill things for money and you have a little girl who is trying to escape her past and it’s like, how do they come together?

"And to me, one of the most fun things we get to explore in Season 2 now is how they get to change and shift each other."
