The Witcher: Visceral Geralt of Rivia battle cut from Netflix series revealed

The Witcher introduced Geralt of Rivia (played by Henry Cavill) in the first episode of the Netflix series as he was attacking a vicious Kikimora in a bog just outside of Blaviken. This was one of a small number of set piece battles between the monster hunter and a large creature throughout the series.

As the show progressed Geralt found himself being drawn into the politics of humans and continually being forced to take a stand against knights and soldiers.

But in episode four of the show – titled Of Banquets, Bastards, and Burials – viewers almost saw another instance of Geralt’s ongoing battle with nature.

The episode in question mostly featured Geralt helping Dandelion out by protecting him during a dinner.

But the beginning of the episode sees Geralt arriving at an inn shortly after killing a Selkie Maw.

Covered in blood and guts, he nonchalantly explains he had to “get it from the inside”.

Well, originally, this sequence was going to be much longer, as fans were supposed to see this entire battle play out.

According to The Witcher writer and musician Declan de Barra, the episode was set to be illustrated in more detail.

Speaking out on Twitter, Declan told his 9,013 followers: “In 104 we meet Geralt after he has killed a beast called a Selkie Maw.

“Originally he was going to be swallowed by it, cut his way out & be chased by fifty squirming baby selkie maws.”

He illustrated his comments with a sketch of a snake-like creature and the caption: “Sketch I made when pitching to room…”

This sequence would have obviously been a viciously entertaining segment of the show – however it looks as if the show’s budget was spent elsewhere.

But will this creature make its way into season two instead?

Meanwhile, fans of the show have been busy theorising over whether Vesemir will be introduced in season two.

Vesemir is best known for being the mentor of Geralt, and the trainer of witchers.

He plays an integral part in both the witcher universe, and indeed to the progression of Geralt’s storyline.

Since fans of the show have been suggesting the arrival of Vesemir, they have been fan-casting different actors.
