THE Simpsons is apparently coming to an end – leaving fans devastated.
Composer Danny Elfman, who created the show's classic theme tune, claimed the cartoon's next season could be its last.
Speaking to Joe, Danny, 66, said: "Well, from what I’ve heard, it is coming to an end. I don’t know for a fact, but I’ve heard that it will be in its last year.
"All I can say is that I’m so flabbergasted and amazed that it has lasted as long as it did.
"You have to realise, when I scored The Simpsons, I wrote this crazy piece of music, and I expected no one would hear it, because I really did not think the show had a chance in hell."
Fans reacted in horror on Twitter, with one writing: "Say it ain't so!"
One more tweeted: "Bad bad idea" as another said: "End of an era"
And one more fan ranted: "Noooo please don’t go…Simpson’s canceling would mean the end to my childhood…it came out the same year I was born, I been watching this show since I was like 2 or 3. I’ve…"
The show was created by Matt Groening in 1989.
It's the longest-running American sitcom and the longest-running scripted primetime television series.
Fox revealed back in February that The Simpson had been renewed for a 32nd season.
Meanwhile, creator Matt said there's 'no doubt' there will be another spin-off movie.
What's more, almost episode of the classic cartoon has been added to new streaming service Disney+, following Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox.
However, the episode featuring a voice over from Michael Jackson has been left off Disney+ as bosses claimed it was "the only choice to make" after the pop star came under fire in the Leaving Neverland documentary.
In the episode, titled Stark Raving Dad, Michael's character befriended Homer's daughter Lisa Simpson and sang 'Lisa it's your birthday' in classic scenes.
However, he was accused by Wade Robson and James Safechuck of sexually abusing them as children.
