The Salisbury Poisonings pays tribute to Dawn Sturgess

The Salisbury Poisonings paid tribute to Dawn Sturgess in tonight’s final episode.

The BBC drama recounted the horrific 2018 Novichok poisoning incident and uncovered what happened when Sergei and Yulia Skripal were found unconscious on a bench in the city.

Tragically, Dawn became collateral damage and passed away after being infected with the deadly nerve agent – and the series has been dedicated to her.

At the end of this evening’s scenes, a video of Dawn dancing with one of her children appeared on the screen after text appeared on the screen honouring her memory.

The mum-of-three from Amesbury and her boyfriend Charlie Rowley were caught up in the events in Salisbury after coming into contact with a perfume bottle in June of that year which had been contaminated.

It’s thought that the perfume bottle was used to spray Novichok on the front door handle of the Skripals’ home in Salisbury – with Charlie and Dawn inhaling Novichok after he unwittingly gave her the perfume as a gift.

Dawn is said to have sprayed it on her wrists before falling ill, with the pair being rushed to hospital, where Charlie recovered after spending two weeks in a coma. Tragically, Dawn died eight days later.

Declan Lawn, who wrote The Salisbury Poisonings screenplay, wrote after the show had aired: ‘Thank you to everyone who trusted us with their stories. That one was for Dawn.’

The Salisbury Poisonings is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
