The Repair Shop’s Jay Blades reveals his dream project for season 7 and talks show’s journey to BBC primetime – The Sun

THE Repair Shop host Jay Blades has revealed his dream project – to restore a classic car.

Millions of TV viewers have fallen in with the popular primetime BBC One show, which brings back to life emotionally significant possessions and heirlooms for their grateful owners.

Now in its sixth series there aren’t many things the team hasn’t fixed – but restorer and presenter Blades said he’s hopeful of receiving one particular thing to work on in season seven.

He said: “We’ve had a chopper bike. I love that we did that.

“I probably would love to see an old car come in – [perhaps] a Jaguar E-Type. That would take quite a long time to do.”

Narrated by Scottish actor Bill Paterson, The Repair Shop sees a team of experts restoring items of interest.

It recently moved to the Wednesday 8pm slot on BBC One, recording remarkable ratings of almost seven million.

Blades thinks the teamwork aspect is what makes the programme so popular.

Discussing The Repair Shop’s under-the-radar journey to BBC primetime and becoming a ratings hit, Blades told RadioTimes.com: “The audience has watched the show from the beginning when it was on BBC Two, then it went to BBC One daytime, and then the numbers just kept on growing and growing.

“You’ve got a community, where there’s a group of us working together for a common goal and you’ve got somebody bringing in an item so you’re hearing about somebody else’s family history.

“Then you’ve got the reveal when they come to pick up the item – it’s just a win-win all round.”
Blades reckons the family nature of his show is important during the coronavirus crisis.

He said: “At the moment, because of the lockdown, a lot of people are listening to a lot of negativity, there isn’t much feel-good stuff around.

“I think The Repair shop offers something completely different to everything that’s out there because it’s kind of a hark back not only to the old days, but also to last year when it was filmed.”

The Repair Shop airs Wednesday nights at 8pm on BBC One.
