The Morning Show’s director slams ‘Apple haters’ after Jennifer Aniston-led show gets lukewarm response

THE Morning Show’s director has slammed ‘Apple haters’ after the Jennifer Aniston-led show received a lukewarm response.

The Apple TV show debuted earlier this month with former Friends star Jennifer playing news anchor Alex Levy alongside Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell.

Despite the stellar cast, the series was met with mixed reviews and now director Mimi Leder has blasted the critics, accusing them of wanting Apple's streaming service to "fail".

Speaking at Code Media 2019 in Hollywood, she said: "I just felt there were a lot of Apple haters and wanting Apple to fail.

"The reviews very much felt like an attack on Apple."

Show runner Kerry Ehrin agreed, saying some of the reviews felt "pretty attack-ish".

She added: "There were a lot of very well-tuned Apple jokes."

Indeed, the reviews weren't kind, with The Hollywood Reporter branding the pilot "brutally dull".

Meanwhile Entertainment Weekly was a little kinder, writing: "It is a real delight to see Aniston, one of our greatest TV stars, back on the small screen.

"The Morning Show is an intriguing, if imperfect, entry into the content wars. But I’ll keep watching."

Jennifer will no doubt be disappointed with some of the feedback from the critics, having described the show as "one of the hardest jobs".

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Jennifer, 50, said: "This role never could’ve come to me any sooner than now.

"It’s one of the hardest jobs I’ve had. I knew I was up to the task, but then there was the excavation of all the emotions in order to create this world for this woman. All of her lifelines are falling away.

The Morning Show drops a new episode every Friday on Apple TV.
