The Handmaid’s Tale Serena Joy actress has no sympathy for cruel wife as she lifts lid on ‘tainted’ baby Nichole scenes – The Sun

THE Handmaid’s Tale's Yvonne Strahovski has revealed she has no sympathy for cruel Serena Joy as she lifts the lid on ‘tainted’ baby Nichole scenes.

The 37-year-old actress plays the Commander's wife in the hit Hulu series, a complex character who has put her handmaid Offred/June (Elisabeth Moss) through a number of cruel ordeals across the three season's so far.

While many might think Yvonne would sympathise with Serena's ideology and point of view, they are mistaken, and she thinks her alter ego deserves any repercussions that could come her way.

In an interview with Gold Derby, she revealed: "I don't feel sorry for her. If I remove myself from being so attached to the insides of Serena Joy as the person who plays her, I think she has it coming and it’s exactly where she should be actually.”

Season three ended with Serena being arrested in Canada for her crimes in Gilead alongside husband Fred (Joseph Fiennes).

Serena had started to realise the error of her ways in helping create the Gilead regime and supporting their sadistic and cruel practices.

Serena even hoped to be reunited with baby Nichole, who had been smuggled to Canada by June at the end of season two and was being raised by her husband Luke and best friend Moira.

One emotional scene saw Serena meet Luke and hold the baby she considered her own, with Yvonne recalling: "

It’s such a tainted experience for her and I loved playing with that duality of having to still be the manipulative Serena whilst automatically losing herself in the emotional side of that reunion.

“From the get-go we were zoned in on one another and it’s very strong because there are two very clear opposing forces at work here in this scene with Luke and his animosity towards Serena.”

Yvonne previously spoke about the "flammable" rivalry between Serena and June and warned she'll take 'no bulls***'.

"It's like the greatest relationship ever. I love it. I get so much joy out of working with Lizzie on camera.

“It's so layered and so complex. This season, the characters have elevated themselves to a new level of no bulls**t

"Prior, we've seen them play each other and be dishonest with one another and I don't think any of that flies this season."
