The Handmaid’s Tale season 3: Traumatic June birth secret exposed – here’s what you missed

As viewers of the Hulu series know, June (played by Elisabeth Moss) gave birth to her daughter back in the second season.

June ultimately decided to hand the tot over to Emily (Alexis Bledel) as she escaped, while June herself decided to stay in Gilead and still remains subject to cruel treatment.

Despite all the torture scenes that could potentially prove to be a strain to film, it transpires the scene where June brought Nichole into the world was the hardest to film for Elisabeth as they tried to recreate a realistic birth.

Elisabeth has opened up on the tough The Handmaid’s Tale scene as she appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

She explained: ”Probably the birth scene in season two, where I had to give birth by myself, naked.

“There was one baby that, in order to get that post-birth look, the guck that comes on a baby, they put cream cheese and jelly on the baby.”

“That baby was not having it. First of all, it smelled, which is weird. The cream cheese and jelly was odd.

“And it hated it, so it was screaming so loud. So I was doing this really emotional scene. I’m like naming the baby after my mother. It’s all very emotional and this baby’s just screaming at the top of its lungs in my ear. And they’re so loud!” Elisabeth continued.

The latest episode of the series saw June commit a shocking act as she murdered Commander Winslow (Christopher Meloni).

He turned up at Jezebels where June also was and he confronted her in a private room.

Winslow attempted to rape June, who managed to get hold of a pen before he could and stabbed him several times with it.

She killed him and managed to get away with the help of a Martha who cleaned up and went on to burn the body.

Now, June is determined to press on with her plan of taking down Gilead and helping to free women and children suffering under the draconian state.

But one fan has now suggested June could find help in the form of an unlikely ally.

The viewer has theories that Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) could help June out with her grand plan.

Although Aunt Lydia has been seen cruelly tormenting the Handmaids, prior to her life in Gilead she was a schoolteacher.

The Reddit user, whichwayiscircle, wrote: “Lydia – her experience as a school teacher could mean she is the one who can actually help do the impossible and move 52 children across the border after all?

“That is her main love and motivation – children – and always has been.”

Could it be enough to drive her to help June? Viewers will have to wait and see.

The Handmaid’s Tale season 3 drops weekly on Hulu on Wednesdays and airs on Channel 4 in the UK every Sunday at 9pm.
