The Handmaid’s Tale season 3, episode 11 recap: What happened in Liars?

The Handmaid’s Tale season three, episode 11 has just been released on US streaming platform Hulu. The dystopian series is drawing to a close on the platform with just two more episodes left to air. Here’s a quick recap of what happened in Liars and what this could mean for June Osborne’s (played by Elisabeth Moss) future.

What happened in The Handmaid’s Tale season 3, episode 11?

WARNING: This article contains spoilers for The Handmaid’s Tale season 3.

For the majority of season three of The Handmaid’s Tale, viewers have been eager to see June fight against the tyranny of Gilead.

In episode 10, the seeds of this were sewn as June began to compile files on the children of dystopian state in a bid to rescue them.

However, this episode opens more dramatically with June in the Lawrence household attempting to stop Eleanor (Julie Dretzin) from killing her husband Commander Lawrence (Bradley Whitford).

Eleanor has been struggling in the past few episodes with her bipolar condition and in episode 10 she broke down after June and her husband were made to take part in the ceremony.

WILL THERE BE A SEASON FOUR?

June walks in on Eleanor holding a gun to Lawrence and she tells her “I know you want to kill him. I want to kill him, too.”

She manages to talk Eleanor down by saying that the murder would ruin June’s plans to rescue Gilead’s children.

In the aftermath, June speaks to Lawrence about helping her to take the 52 children to Canada but he is undeniably reluctant.

Some of the Marthas then visit June at home to tell her her plan is not thought through and could jeopardise their own plans.

However, in the end, they tell her she can execute her plan provided she does it after their shipment.

WHAT IS THE MEANING BEHIND THE MOUTH RINGS IN SEASON 3?

Before June can proceed Lawrence disappears from the household leaving June a simple note saying “sorry.”

All is not lost for June as he comes back to the household and tells June she needs to go to Jezebel’s to bribe Billy (Daniel Jun), who is the bartender behind orchestrating a shipment.

June’s plan seems to go awry when Commander Winslow (Christopher Meloni) turns up at the club and June is forced to craft a lie that Lawrence sends her to Jezebel’s to spy on commanders.

In a sickening moment, Winslow takes this reasoning as an opportunity to come on to June.

WHO IS IN THE CAST OF THE HANDMAID’S TALE?

However, before they have sex, June stabs Winslow with a pen before she hits him in the head and kills him.

Meanwhile, throughout the episode, Serena Joy (Yvonne Strahovski) and Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) have been making a trip to Canada to try and bring baby Nichole back to Gilead.

They are planning to meet Mark Tuello (Sam Jaeger) who gave his number to Serena in a previous episode to tell her to contact him if she wanted to escape.

WHAT HAPPENED IN EPISODE 10?

However, as soon as they exit the car to meet him, Mark reveals that as they are in Canada, Fred is being arrested for war crimes.

As soldiers drag him away, Serena is not arrested but lead away in another car as it becomes clear that it was always her plan to remove Fred from the picture.

Viewers will have to tune in to the penultimate episode next week to find out how these dramatic storylines will be resolved.

The Handmaid’s Tale season 3 drops weekly on Hulu on Wednesdays and airs on Channel 4  in the UK every Sunday at 9pm.
