The Handmaid’s Tale fans beg for ‘important and deserved’ Janine flashback scenes in season 4

THE Handmaid’s Tale fans have begged for ‘important and deserved’ Janine flashback scenes in season four.

The character – played by Madeline Brewer – has been in the show since the first season but while other supporting characters like Emily and Aunt Lydia have had flashback scenes to their pre-Gilead life, Janine has not.

This despite the fact that over the three seasons so far, Janine has lost an eye, given birth, threatened to jump off a bridge with her baby and had a round trip to the Colonies.

Viewers have become invested in Janine's story over the series so far, and would love to know more about her life before she became a Handmaid.

Taking to Reddit, one fan of the Hulu series wrote: "I really want a backstory on Janine in the next season.

"It’s probable that won’t happen, but she’s been such an important character since the beginning and I want to know more about her life before Gilead. It’s not fair and her character deserves it!"

Another fan added: "Oh I agree. I was hoping when they showed her in the 'meat packing' like scene where they were moving all the women again before times, they would go into a flashback on her.

"I would love to see more story and flashbacks on a lot of the supporting characters.

"I think they went the wrong direction this last season without doing that."

Meanwhile Elisabeth Moss, who plays lead character June/Offred, recently opened up about how the coronavirus pandemic had delayed her directorial debut on the show.

Elisabeth, who is also an executive producer on the show, told Deadline: "We were two weeks into shooting when we shut down, so we didn’t get a lot in the can, and I was actually also in the middle of directing.

“Our writers are still writing, and they are continuing to write this season, obviously remotely from their own homes, separately, and that train is still chugging along."
