The Flash season 5 spoilers: Showrunner teases HUGE Crisis on Infinite Earths twist

The Flash (played by Grant Gustin) has seen a tough season this year.

Whilst first being forced to take on Cicada (Chris Klein) in the first half of the season, he is now up against Cicada II (Sarah Carter) – a horrific future version of one innocent bystander.

However the biggest change-up for Barry has been the inclusion of his daughter, Nora West-Allen (Jessica Parker-Kennedy).

And the worst part of her storyline was the horrific revelation that Nora was in fact working with Reverse Flash (Tom Cavanagh) all along.

But the biggest twists could be yet to come, as revealed by showrunner Todd Helbing.

Speaking to TV Line The CW show’s boss teased: “We turned over a lot of cards – not all of them, but a lot of them.”

Todd enigmatically went on to add: “There are still some more coming.”

With Reverse Flash’s imprisonment probably on the line in the finale, fans may see a classic match up between the titular hero and his arch-nemesis.

Todd explained Thawne’s plan has always been about getting out of Iron Heights in the future.

He continued: “The first time that Nora goes to Iron Heights, he’s talking about the power dampening in the cell. It’s the dagger he’s talking about.”

Todd also added that the finale will deliver “the full answer” about what Thawne has been up to.

And with the upcoming Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover event just a few months away, fans have been hoping for a tease about how The Flash will tie into the event.

Reluctant to disappoint expectations, Todd went on to confirm The Flash’s finale would set up the huge crossover event.

He announced: “Yes, it does. Totally.”

Recently Cicada star Sarah spoke about the final episodes of the season, and teased a brutal conflict to come.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, Sarah explained: “She just wants to kill them

“This show is so delightful to be a part of because the characters are all so fascinating and the actors who play all of the characters are great human beings and intelligent and generous and good at their jobs.

“So, just when they say ‘action,’ we are all these playful moving parts. It’s almost like kids playing characters in a school yard.

“There’s an element of just free for all. I think knowing who they are outside of when they say ‘action,’ helps me to feel really safe and open and playful when I’m actually my character.”

The Flash season five continues tonight on The CW.
