Emerald has claimed viewers will discover a new element to the love affair as showrunners do their best to play out what happened behind the scenes.

Speaking to The Sunday Telegraph, Ms Fennell said: “I hope that it feels true.

“She was a young woman who fell in love with someone. And it’s a story I think that maybe hasn’t been told – the kind of story before his marriage [to Dianna, Princess of Wales]. So I hope that I have done a good job.”

The actress will play out the untold romance alongside Josh O’Connor who plays Prince Charles.

Fans who have seen the trailer for the new outing will know the Prince of Wales is set to struggle this season.

The Prince is advised not to turn his back on true love, but this proves to have a number of complexities.

Despite the upcoming drama this will entail in the show, Emerald has remained firm that the Duchess will now be vilified in the portrayal of events.

With the relationship being so controversial, the actress did reveal she is “nervous” about how the new series will be received, but reminded viewers the show is fictional.

She added: “There was one [sex scene] written in The Crown, in episode seven of [season two]. We had long discussions about what it should be, and it just became clear that to titillate was not the aim.”
