Taron Egerton Confirms Talks With Marvel to Play Wolverine

The ‘Black Bird’ actor admits he’d be ‘excited’ but ‘apprehensive as well’ about taking over the role because Hugh Jackman ‘is so associated with the role.’

AceShowbizTaron Egerton is clawing his way to nabbing Wolverine role. The Welsh actor has been long pitched by fans to play the X-Men character since Hugh Jackman hung his adamantium claws, but has only confirmed that he had a meeting with studio executives about taking over the role.

The prospect of him filling Jackman’s shoes as the mutant was brought up during an interview with The New York Time to talk about his new Apple TV+ miniseries “Black Bird“. Noting that it’s still early days, the 32-year-old expressed his interest in landing the role as saying, “But hopefully if it does come around, they’ll give me a shot.”

Egerton added about being linked to the character, “I’d be excited but I’d be apprehensive as well.” He went on reasoning, “Because Hugh is so associated with the role that I’d wonder if it’d be very difficult for someone else to do it.”

Egerton was once again asked about the possibility of him being one of the X-Men during a short interview with Comicbook.com. Not shying away from showing his interest, he said, “I’d love to.”

A couple of years ago, Egerton addressed fans’ wish that he will be stepping into the role as Wolverine. The Golden Globe Award winner called all the fancasts “really flattering.” He elaborated, “That anyone thinks I would be good for the part is really flattering. I love Marvel, but it’s just fan stuff. There is no grounding for those rumors.”

However, in 2019, he told fans that nothing had been set in stone just yet. “I think that I love those films and I’ve got lots of friends who play roles in those films and they love it and they have a great time… I don’t know,” the “Rocketman” star mused. “I think the Logan thing is really interesting. I’m slightly baffled by it; I’ve never felt like a Wolverine sort of guy.”

He added, “I think that one’s a few years away. I know that Kevin [Feige’s] spoken about it being a few years away. Maybe in a few years I’ll look rough enough for it. I’ve made no secret of the fact that I’m a fan of those fans and of course I would, I would love to be a part of them.”
