Sunday Brunch to return to Channel 4 this weekend – but there’s a big change

Sunday Brunch usually airs on Channel 4 between 9:30am and 12:30pm every weekend and sees hosts Tim Lovejoy, 51, and Simon Rimmer, 56, talking with numerous celebrity guests. Unfortunately, the show was cancelled last Sunday as coronavirus fears swept the nation as several live television programmes shut down production. However, fans needn’t worry about not getting their weekly dose of action this week as it’s been revealed the kitchen-based show will be returning.

The programme is scheduled to be just as long and will see the hosts overseeing proceedings as they would usually do.

This will include interviews with famous faces, as well as knocking up some culinary delights in the kitchen.

However, there is a catch as the crew will not be on hand to help with the filming of the show in the studio.

Instead, both Tim and Simon have been busy pre-recording their segments via Skype so viewers don’t miss out this weekend.

Tim revealed the news on his podcast, Dear Lovejoy, today after fears the programme would be off air for the foreseeable.

The presenter assured viewers it would be returning, stating: “We did record a Sunday Brunch today, Simon and myself.

“We did it via Skype in our kitchens so we’re putting that out at the weekend which is exciting with some archive clips of the show.”

Although they managed to get the recordings done, the usual set-up wasn’t without its challenges, as the host explained.

It was really weird doing it

“It was really weird doing it, but really good fun. To being with we hated it because you know, obviously, we’re used to doing a live TV show and standing in a studio.

“It took us quite a long time to actually get the technique going where we weren’t talking over each other.”

This will welcome to many as the show has been a hit favourite on Channel 4 since it first broadcast in 2012.

Plans haven’t always gone the way the stars of the show would have hoped for, but this has added to its success.

For this reason, last weekend’s cancellation caused great misery amongst fans who had been hoping to get some light relief from current circumstances.

A post on the official Sunday Brunch Twitter page read: “We are sad to say that Sunday Brunch will not be on this morning as billed.

“We put the health and safety of our team above all else and cannot at this time record the show without risk to our presenters and crew.

“We very much hope to be back live on Sundays soon,” it concluded and it seems Tim’s announcement today reveals how the programme will go ahead in the coming weeks.

Another added: “Yes that definitely needs to be done, particularly if this could go on for a number of weeks. You are spot on it’s totally comfort viewing.”

Whilst a third wrote: “Sunday won’t be the same without you totally understand take care all xx.”

“Stay safe all. It’s a shame you can’t show reruns like some other programs so we could have some normality,” a fourth remarked, so this latest news should be welcomed by many.

Sunday Brunch continues Sunday at 9:30am on Channel 4.
