During the Centre Court Centenary Celebration, Sue and fellow commentator John McEnroe welcomed champions from across the decades to the stadium.

“These are the people, these are the viewers, these are the people you’re talking to everyday.

The 66-year-old first joined the coverage of Wimbledon in 1993 and fronted the BBC’s broadcast from 2000.

In a statement released before this year’s Wimbledon, Sue explained why it was time to retire as a pundit.

She said: “What a wonderful time I’ve had working on some of the biggest sporting events around the world.

“I will miss it terribly but after 30 years I feel the time is right for me. I’ve worked with the best of the best.

Sue previously told Mail Plus she decided to leave Wimbledon back in 2017 after the hours were starting to get long.

However, she was pleased she decided to stay on for another five years: “I’m very happy to be leaving with no regrets and on my own terms while I am still on top of the job.

“It just feels like the right time to go and leave it to others.”

The One Show continues weekdays on BBC from 7pm
