Strictly's Shirley Ballas limps in pain as she's forced to wear orthopaedic boot on sprained ankle

STRICTLY judge Shirley Ballas was seen limping about in an orthopaedic boot after spraining her ankle.

The star, 59, has been forced to use the brace and walk with a stick after picking up an injury, although it's unclear how she hurt herself.

The dancing pro was pictured using a stick to support herself as she limped into an osteopath’s in Epsom, Surrey earlier this week.

Shirley later emerged wearing the boot alongside her boyfriend Danny Taylor.

The TV star posted about her injury on Instagram, but didn't say how she hurt herself.

Sharing a post on Instagram, Shirley said of her injury: "I think it was beyond a sprain… what do you think?

"I’ll be wearing this little chappy [the orthopaedic boot] for a while and with a little bit of a hobble so I won’t be running for a while so I’ll have to find other ways to exercise.

Adding: "Thanks to all you people who asked how I was doing – it’s been a painful day but getting there in the end.

"Hopefully it will be on the mend pretty soon."

Shirely's appearance comes after it was revealed that this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing will be delayed by nearly a month because of the Covid-19 crisis.

BBC bosses have pushed back the start date to October — meaning the biggest programme on TV will have a shorter run.

It is likely to consist of nine or ten shows — compared to 13 last year, when actor Kelvin Fletcher won the title with partner Oti Mabuse.

As a result, producers are planning to have fewer celebrities and professional dancers taking part.

The decision came a day after we revealed that BBC chiefs had axed The Apprentice this year because lockdown measures made it impossible to film.

They are pre-recording the professionals’ group dances months in advance.

Strictly bigwigs felt a delay was the only way to safely shoot their 2020 edition and leave enough gaps for social distancing.

A BBC spokesman said: "To ensure we deliver the high standards audiences know and love, and in light of ongoing considerations around Covid-19, this year’s series of Strictly will have a slightly shorter run than usual.

"The safety of our cast and crew is of the utmost importance to us."

The Sun previously revealed how the pros will have to isolate with their celeb partners before the show starts.
