STRICTLY Come Dancing viewers eagerly tuned in for the launch of the new series last night – but they were soon distracted.

Many fans voiced their frustration about the pre-recorded programme's apparent use of canned laughter to add weight to its gags.

One wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: "What's with the canned laughter?????"

Another posted: "Was the launch show recorded? Hints of canned laughter?"

A third said: "Why does it sound like they have canned laughter in the background."

Another wrote: "What is with this awful canned laughter."

False laughter aside, the launch show had a bit of everything from sensational performances from the pros and judges, emotional tributes to Amy Dowden and Len Goodman, and the sheer joy of the new pairings being revealed.

There was also controversy too as blonde beauty Nadiya Bychkova, 34, was left without a celebrity partner.

Following the first episode, Nadiya told fans on Instagram: “I’m sure you’ll understand that I'm disappointed not to be partnered with a celebrity on @bbcstrictly this series.”

The star continued:  “It is an amazing show to be a part of and I’m still so excited for all the group numbers, performing with some of our music acts and much much more.

“I’m also looking forward to supporting my fellow pros and I want to wish all the couples the best of luck for the competition this year.”

Her famous pals and fans rushed to support her, with boyfriend and fellow Strictly star Kai Widdrington commenting: “Always shining bright.”

Nadiya's 2022 celebrity partner Dan Walker wrote: No “one puts the Yorkshire Barmaid in a corner. Keep shining partner.”

While two-time Glitterball winner Oti Mabuse added: “Sending you love and hugs.”

Nadiya was thought to be a shoo-in to be paired with a celeb having been an ever-present on the show for the past six years.

It was a particular surprise given the BBC used her so predominantly in the publicity to drum up interest ahead of the start of the 21st series.

Nadiya, who started dating fellow pro Kai, 28, after they met on Strictly two years ago, has built up a strong following since she first appeared in 2017.
