Earlier this year, there were concerns over whether or not Strictly Come Dancing would be able to go ahead due to Government’s social distancing guidelines. However, the BBC One competition has been given the green light for the go ahead and will start on Saturday, October 24. Now there is an official start date, all there is left to question is who will be gracing the Strictly ballroom floor.

Phillip Schofield has been presenting This Morning since 2002 with best friend Holly Willoughby joining him on the sofa in 2009.

The pair are best known for getting into fits of laughter live on air as well as when they presented the show in the same clothes they wore to the NTA (National Television Awards) following their win.

In February though, fans were left shocked as Phillip announced on This Morning in an interview with Holly that he was gay, despite him being married with two daughters.

While there were some who criticised the presenter for his actions, the majority have shown a lot of support for Phillip.

Talking about his decision to come out as gay, Phillip said: “I have made my decision, which is essential for me and essential for my head and it’s principle the reason why I’ve done this.

“Of course I’m really very aware that Steph and the girls are at home watching this, and we’re all together and we’ve spent a lot of time together, and they’ve been supporting us to this moment as they all knew it was coming.

“So yeah, I feel a little lighter but I’m also very, very aware, there’s no question it causes pain and upset.”

Now it has been widely reported that Phillip could make another giant step but this time on a different show.

Will Phillip Schofield be in Strictly Come Dancing’s first same-sex couple?

There has been talks of same-sex couples being allowed to take part in Strictly Come Dancing for the past few years.

Dancing on Ice was the first to break the mould with Ian “H from Steps” Watkins being paired with professional skater Matt Evers earlier this year.

A source told the Daily Star: “Top-secret talks have been happening for a few weeks and an offer has been made.

“The hope is Phillip would dance with another man.

“If it happens it would be a beautiful and important moment both for him and for the show.”

However, following the rumours circulating online, Radio Times reported Phillip was not going to be on Strictly this year.

The presenter’s representative labelled the rumours as “untrue” and stated: “He is not in talks with the BBC”.

While Phillip may not be the one making this move on Strictly, The Sun reported last month the producers are looking to feature two same sex couples, one all-male and one all-female in the 2020 series.

This has yet to be officially confirmed by the BBC and remains as speculation at this stage.

There are a number of other celebrities rumoured to be joining the cast of Strictly 2020.

These include ex-EastEnders star Jacqueline Jossa, Homes Under The Hammer presenter Martin Roberts, Westlife’s Mark Feehily and Our Girl star Michelle Keegan.

Other famous faces who could be on this year’s Strictly are presenter Stacey Solomon, Coronation Street’s Jack P Shepherd, CBBC presenter Radzi Chinyanganya and Made In Chelsea’s Jamie Lang.

Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC One later this year.
