Strictly Come Dancing star thought they’d ‘faint’ due to nerves on BBC show

Strictly Come Dancing saw ex-Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher lift the coveted Glitterball Trophy last weekend alongside professional dancer Oti Mabuse. They wowed the judges throughout the series and emerged victorious in last Saturday’s (14 December) final. Some former stars of past series’ will be returning for the show’s Christmas special but TV personality Mark Wright admitted he was worried about his re-appearance.

The Strictly final saw a massive 11.3 million viewers tune in to see Kelvin and Oti lift the Glitterball as the show due to its close for another year.

Luckily, with Christmas just around the corner, Strictly fans will get to see more couples take to the floor as the show returns for its yearly Christmas Special on Wednesday.

Taking to the floor this year will be five couples who have all previously featured on Strictly and made it to different stages of the competition in the past.

Debbie McGee, Joe Sugg, Gemma Atkinson, Richard Arnold, Chizzy Akudolu and Mark Wright will all be getting their sequins on as they make a return to the iconic dance floor.

However, one star confessed how his nerves nearly got the better of him as he geared up to feature on the show again this year.

Mark Wright, who was partnered with Karen Hauer back in 2014, made it all the way to the final after impressing the judges with his slick routines.

He returns this year alongside Janette Manrara, who had to leave the latest series prematurely after her partner Will Bayley’s injury forced him to quit.

Mark, who shot to fame on reality TV show The Only Way is Essex, admitted his struggle with nerves and how he felt like “fainting”.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, he said: “I try to explain this to people, but nobody believes me, you know, except some people who feel it.

“The nerves used to be that bad that you couldn’t be any more nervous. So it’s just like, what’s the next level? It’s got to be fainting, surely. Because I am that bad,” he added.

His partner Janette seemingly helped to calm the star down, as he said: “She’s pretty good with that… like last time… In the end, you just give up trying. You just know that you’re going to feel like it.

Mark revealed he has struggled with nerves since he was younger as well as in his previous stint on the show.

“It’s really not a nice feeling. I used to box when I was young, and I always said to everybody that’s the worst feeling. Coming down the aisle and now you’re about to be beaten up, but this actually is worse.

“This time I want to do like I said I just want this to be my best ever one. I just want to really… and Janette was so good,” he gushed.

He recalled wanting to be partnered with Janette in the past, and complimented his new partner’s skills.

“I remember she was with Jake Wood my year, and the tricks and the lifts they used to do. I remember thinking if I didn’t have Karen, I’d f***ing love to have Janette.

“So when I got Janette I was like, “yes!” First day I was like, “Janette, just make me lift you, that’s all I want to do”, and we’ve done loads,” he confessed.

It comes after Mark told press he didn’t think his wife, actor Michelle Keegan, would fancy her chances on the show.
He told The Sun Online: “I don’t think she… she might. I mean never say never… but she, I just think her nerves would go to another level, she gets quite nervous.

“I mean I do, I’m a bit more like, ‘come on, let’s just have it!’

“I’m not sure she’s… whenever she watches me or when I’ve sent her the dance before she’s like, ‘I don’t know how you do it!'”
