Strictly Come Dancing 2019: Janette Manrara red-faced over awkward wardrobe malfunction

Janette Manrara, 35, and Strictly Come Dancing contestant Will Bayley, 31, received their highest scores of the series on Saturday night as they wowed the judges with their emotional Contemporary routine. However, the dance didn’t go as smoothly as planned as the professional suffered a wardrobe malfunction just moments before the end of the performance on the BBC dance show.

The panel were blown away with the routine which the Paralympian attributed to The Great Ormond Street Hospital as he reflected on his journey since being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma when he was seven-years-old.

Joining host Rylan Clark-Neal, 30, on tonight’s instalment of It Takes Two, Janette praised her partner in abundance.

Although the interview began discussing the emotive tones to the routine, it wasn’t long before the presenter addressed the wardrobe malfunction which occurred in the midst of the performance.

The professional dancer could be heard exclaiming in disbelief as footage played of the moment in question, leaving her hugely embarrassed.

Viewers may have noticed towards the end of the number, Will lifted his partner and found himself having to pull her skirt off his face.

Watching the moment unfold on Strictly’s sister show, Janette held her hand to her mouth as she couldn’t believe the incident had happened.

“I didn’t know it happened on the night,” the American professional dancer admitted.

Addressing the wardrobe malfunction, the trained performer explained: “I remember because I said to him, ‘No matter what happens, when we get to that last lift, you stand steady and you walk forward with power and strength,’ and he did exactly that.”

How he overcame the unexpected twist in the performance, Will told Rylan: “It went over my head and I was like, ‘How am I going to style this out?’

The host quipped: “All those weeks of training, that’s what it’s paid off for,” before applauding them for their score of 32, their highest so far.

Although all four judges were choked up by the routine, there was one panellist who was inaudible as they shed a few tears.

Motsi Mabuse, 38, couldn’t give critique or praise the pair as she was so overcome with emotion, leading the Paralympian to offer comfort.

During the results show on Sunday night, host Claudia Winkleman, 47, addressed the display of emotion from the newcomer.

Motsi explained: “You know when I’m watching this, for me this transcends dancing. This transcends just giving scores to a dancer.

“I felt inspired by him, I felt like the message he’s carrying is much much stronger.”

“I’m a mum, a new mum, and looking at that and him going through all of that, I was like, ‘Oh my god he’s so strong.’”

Will’s position in the competition looks steady according to latest odds from Coral bookmakers who have the sportsman at 50-1 to win the Glitterball Trophy.

However, it looks like BBC Breakfast star Mike Bushell, 53, could be the next celebrity eliminated from the show.

The outsider currently resides at 4-6 to become the fifth casualty of the series, quickly followed by Viscountess Emma Weymouth, 33.

Coral spokesperson John Hill said: “t could be the end of the road for Mike this weekend as we make him the odds-on favourite to give the judges a fright on Halloween round and be the next contestant eliminated from the show.”

Strictly Come Dancing 2019 continues Saturday at 6.35pm on BBC One.
