'Star Wars': What is Project Luminous? The Details Are Finally Out, and It's a Massive Blank Slate

The Star Wars fandom was buzzing over the cryptic Project Luminous since the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga. Fans finally found out on Feb. 24, 2020, what the project is all about.

Let’s take a look at this massive new era of uncharted territory Star Wars is entering into this year. When can we expect to see comics, books, video games, or a movie?

What is ‘Star Wars: The High Republic?’

The High Republic is an era of the Star Wars universe when the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order are at their height. It is set 200 years before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.

The Jedi are serving and protecting the galaxy in a time where people are hopeful and optimistic. The Jedi and the Republic are noble and respected in this era. They are known as The Jedi Knights of the Round Table.

This new timeline will not overlap any of the films or series that are currently in production. It’s an entirely new era with a blank slate and unchartered territory in the realm of storytelling.

Will there be a ‘Star Wars: The High Republic’ movie coming out?

There are currently three Star Wars movies coming on Dec. 16, 2022, Dec. 20, 2024, and Dec. 18, 2026. The High Republic is rumored to be one of those movies, but it is not yet confirmed. The project will begin with books and continue onward from there.

Currently, the release includes stories from authors Claudia Gray, Charles Soule, Justina Ireland, Daniel Jose Older, and Cavan Scott.

These first five books and comics are debuting at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim in August 2020. A few of the titles are available for pre-order now.

What ‘Star Wars: The High Republic’ movies, books, or comics are coming out in 2020?

The following titles were announced at a press event on Feb. 24, 2020:

Star Wars: The High Republic: Into the Dark by Claudia Gray

Star Wars: The High Republic: A Test of Courage by Justina Ireland

Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures by Daniel José Older

Star Wars: The High Republic: Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule

Who is collaborating on Project Luminous’ ‘The High Republic?’

The trailer for ‘The High Republic’ reveals that the team working together on this project is an extensive one. Initially, the project included Disney Lucasfilm Press, Marvel Comics, Del Rey, and IDW Publishing.

On Feb. 24, 2020, several new publishers joined the project, including Abrams, becker&mayer!, DK, Insight Editions, Titan Publishing, and Viz Media.

They have concept artists, illustrators, and visualists in the same way you would when you are making a movie. The original creator of Darth Maul, Iain McCaig, is also back designing Jedi and villains for the project.

With all of these great minds together; hopefully, this means there is a film set in ‘The High Republic’ on the horizon.
