He was told his contract, due to end this summer, was not being renewed.

Phil then drove 300 miles from London to Cornwall to see mum Pat, 85, where he spent Friday pouring his heart out to her on a coastal walk — as our exclusive pictures show.

This Morning confirm stand-in presenters after Phillip Schofield axe

His exit was confirmed yesterday, after weeks of intense speculation about his future and a feud with co-host Holly Willoughby, 42.

Holly later broke her silence after co-star Phillip sensationally quit.

She admitted the sofa "would not be the same" as Phil steps down after more than 13 years.

Rising tensions between Phillip and Holly have led to the former releasing a shock statement this afternoon.

The presenting pair saw their once-close relationship crumble in recent weeks.

Shortly after Phillip's statement, she penned: "Hi everyone, it's been over 13 great years presenting This Morning with Phil and I want to take this opportunity to thank him for all of his knowledge, his experience and his humour.

"The sofa won't feel the same without him," followed by a love heart.
