The new BBC series, which is due to premiere on BBC Two and iPlayer on Sunday, 29 August, will see duo Chris Packham and his step-daughter Megan McCubbin embark on an epic summer road trip across the country in a bid to encounter some incredible wildlife. Megan became a much-loved addition to Chris’ show Springwatch when she appeared during the height of lockdown.
Chris has been a veteran naturalist, having presented the BBC show Springwatch since 2009.
Being impacted by Covid and the lockdowns last year, Chris had to film his yearly show from the comfort of his own home, where he introduced Megan to the programme.
Growing up with Chris, Megan learnt to share his passion for the natural world from a young age is now a zoologist and quickly became a fan favourite with the unexpected duo often going on to do more presenting jobs together.
After being locked inside for most of 2020, the pair set off in their electric camper van, going across the UK to travel through some of the country’s last untouched wilderness through Wales, the North of England and Scotland.

As the two generations travel and spend time together, their stepfather-daughter relationship is explored as well as the ever-changing natural world.
Across six episodes, Chris and Megan will explore the natural beauty and wildlife in places including Snowdonia, the Lake District, and the Western Isles.
Chris & Meg’s Wild Summer brings an apt timing of the natural wonders that the UK offers now that more people are spending their summers within and around the UK.
Speaking on the show, Chris said: “The UK is a remarkable place to find wildlife, and it’s only a weekend away! Megs and I have always been up for an adventure.
“Some great wildlife and an ice-cream, so this sometimes hectic, always eclectic and wholly electric trip around our great-green backyard was bound to be a winner,” he explained.
“We go, we see, we eat vegan sarnies, and we savour the best of the UK’s wild spots and wildlife. Throw in some punk rock, vintage summer wear and the binoculars, and you’ve got a road trip with a recipe for success!”.
Megan also spoke about the release of the show and exclaimed: “I am so excited to share this series with viewers – it’s a ‘wild summer with a difference!
“With wildlife at its heart, Chris and I travel the length of the UK exploring its natural and cultural wonders and discuss important topics that make us who we are.

“Everything from modern families, neurodiversity and the health of our environment,” she explained.
Chris, who was in a relationship with Megan’s mother Jo McCubbin for ten years, has recently spoken very highly of his step-daughter after her debut on his show Springwatch and said she’s a big hit with the fans.
“She did really well, I said to her: ‘You figure out what you want to say, and I’ll fill in around you.’ I don’t need to own anything, I’ve got nothing to prove. I was there as a support mechanism, really, and wasn’t needed,” he explained.
“She believes in what she’s got to say; she’s excited by the science and committed to the environmental aspects of it.”
Megan also spoke about the attention she had been receiving from fans and explained: “I had this young man who contacted me to say that his older brother would like to marry me but is too afraid to message me directly.
“But if I’d like to message him, here’s his account’, I said: ‘You’re going to get in so much trouble, but that’s very sweet. I like the effort’.”
The pair had been living at Chris’ house during lockdown as Jo is a nurse and felt it would be safer for Megan to live there.
The pair established the Self-Isolating Bird Club, a 30-minute broadcast live-streamed from their garden on Facebook. The show caught the attention of the Springwatch producers, who suggested she joined the show as a guest presenter.
Chris & Meg’s Wild Summer will premiere on BBC Two and iPlayer on Sunday 29 August at 8:30pm.
