Spoilers: Illness storyline for Lydia in Emmerdale

It’s been a tough couple of months for Lydia Hart (Karen Blick) in Emmerdale, but she’s about to make two shocking discoveries in the coming episodes, when she realises that her mum — whom she believed to be dead — is, in fact very much alive. If that’s not hard enough, her mum’s arrival brings with it devastating news when she learns that there’s a possibility she cold have Huntington’s disease.

Lydia’s confrontation with long-lost sister Beth is all that Mandy (Lisa Riley) can think about in the coming episodes, and she feels somewhat responsible over everything that’s transpired. As a result, she sets off to get an explanation out of Beth.

However, as Mandy arrives at Beth’s place, she comes face-to-face with a woman named Agatha — who’s soon revealed to be Lydia’s mum. The problem with this is that Lydia thinks that her mum is dead.

Agatha asks Mandy to take her to see Lydia — but Mandy’s not too sure. However, she ultimately decides to do so, but her doubts are still very much present. Nonetheless, the pair arrive at the Dingles — and Lydia is shocked.

Agatha admits that she’s got a lot of explaining too —and Lydia’s somewhat nervous over the thought of facing her past — but matters go from bad to worse when Agatha informs Lydia that her father passed away as a result of Huntington’s disease — which means that there’s a likely chance Lydia could have the same thing.

Lydia’s devastated at her mum’s revelation, and she later shares the news with Mandy, Samson (Sam Hall), and Vinny (Bradley Johnson),

Lydia spends a lot of time deliberating over whether or not she should take a test to find out if she’s got Huntington’s.

Will she do so?
