Spoilers: Gray saves Whitney with his own murder guilt in EastEnders?

Whitney Dean’s (Shona McGarty) future hangs in the balance in an EastEnders cliffhanger that saw the jury about to deliver the verdict over whether she is guilty or not guilty for the murder of Leo King.

She had all but given up hope over her fate when the prosecution’s closing speech left her seeming like a cold blooded killer – while her own barrister Gray Atkins (Toby-Alexander Smith) failed to turn up.

When the judge refused to grant an extension of time, Whitney was determined that it was all over for her, but after an outburst at Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) at home over Chantelle’s mug, Gray ended up heading to court.

There, he delivered a speech about the statistics of women being killed by abusive men and by saying that the person on trial should be Leo, not Whitney.

Of course, he was channelling his own wrecked conscience, accepting his own monstrous behaviour that led to the death of his wife and his guilt allowed him to practically confess in front of the full court.

Oblivious Whitney had no idea of the reality and even commented that it was like he got in Leo’s head but she was grateful nonetheless.

But has Gray done enough? As the jury returned with a verdict, Whitney prepared to hear their decision?

Will she go down or walk free?
