Series lead Daveed Diggs has also revealed on Twitter that the upcoming third season of Snowpiercer has just completed filming. Fans were ecstatic that the ride will be continuing on TNT and Netflix following the chilling disappearance of fan favourite Melanie Cavill (played by Jennifer Connelly) in the recent season finale.

The Engine will keep turning in the freshly announced fourth season of popular post-apocalyptic drama, Snowpiercer.

Just a few months after the second instalment wrapped up in March of this year, TNT continued their hot streak of early TV pickups.

Three days after it was confirmed the upcoming third season had finished filming, the network announced the show would indeed be returning for a fourth.

Plot details are being kept tightly under wraps, but Jennifer Connelly’s Melanie has been confirmed to appear in at least the third season after she disappeared into the Freeze.

Meanwhile, Diggs, Sean Bean, Rowan Blanchard and Lena Hall will all be returning next time, with Archie Panjabi and Chelsea Harris joining the supporting cast.

Deadline have reported that the decision to renew the series was made last month, but official announcements were withheld to coincide with the completion of season three.

The next instalment is due to premiere on TNT early next year, with episodes made available on Netflix the day after.

It’s assumed the fourth season will continue the tradition of premiering at the start of the year, in 2023.

Upon hearing the news, fans flocked to social media to celebrate Snowpiercer’s continuation over the next two years.

On Twitter, one fan said: “A Season 4 before a Season 3. Holy C**p i’m excited.”

“Damn, the execs must love it, season 3 just wrapped filming. Anyways SUPER EXCITED,” another replied.

And on Reddit, one fan commented: “Yay! I’m SO glad the ride isn’t over.”

The news arrived shortly after Daveed Diggs took to his personal Twitter page to confirm he had shaved his beard as he gets ready to take a break from playing the train’s ex-detective, Andre Layton.

He told fans: “My ritual at the end of every season of #snowpiercertnt is to immediately cut my beard… so I guess that’s a wrap on season 3!!!!

“Big Love to Mary Phan for making me look good all season and for having the clippers READY!! Get ready for a wild season y’all.”

There were also a number of fans calling for the return of Melanie Cavill, as she is still presumed dead after she walked into the frozen wasteland outside the train.

Confirmation that she will appear in the upcoming third season have raised fans’ hopes, though it’s unclear whether this will only occur in flashbacks.

One Redditor said: “Great but I need to know for sure that Melanie is alive!”

And one viewer speculated on Twitter: “I’m betting on Melanie showing up in the last episode of S4 with a group of underground survivors and blocking the train tracks or highjacking it with horses like they did in the wild west.”

Snowpiercer’s upcoming seasons could take a drastic turn after the chaotic events of the last episodes, but fans will have to wait until next year to find out.

Snowpiercer season 3 will premiere in early 2022 on TNT in the US, with episodes airing the day after on Netflix.
