'Sister Wives': Meri Brown Posts Touching Tribute to Her Daughter, Says Her Sexuality 'Was Never an Issue'

Meri Brown has nothing but love for her daughter Mariah and her fiancée Audrey Kriss. The Sister Wives star took to Instagram on September 25 to honor the two women.

“Happy National Daughters Day to these freaking adorable girls of mine!” the proud mom wrote. “Love you guys like crazy and am SO proud of who you are and what you stand for!! PS I miss you! 😊💙🧡💜💛💚❤”

Meri wasn’t prepared for her daughter’s big announcement

Brown’s only daughter came out as a lesbian in 2017. She hesitated to tell her family about her sexuality, in part because the Mormon church to which her family belonged did not embrace LGBTQ people.

“It’s always been there — it’s always been something I pushed away because I was scared. I think my biggest fear has always been to be gay. So I didn’t let myself accept it because it was wrong — I was told [by members of the church] that it was wrong and that I would be a bad person,” Mariah said in the episode where she revealed her identity to her family. She also clarified that she didn’t hear those messages from her immediate family.

While Meri’s sister wives Janelle and Robyn immediately embraced Mariah after her announcement, Meri’s response was a bit more muted. She later revealed that while she was accepting of Mariah, she was struggling to let go of some of the dreams she had for her daughter, including that her future husband would someday be the son Meri never had.

“I always wanted to have a son. I always just kind of thought, ‘Well, ya know, since I never had a son, I’ll be able to kind of adopt Mariah’s husband into kind of being a son.’ And I looked forward to seeing who that was gonna be, you know? And that’s not gonna happen,” she said at the time.

Someone wondered if Meri had a hard time accepting Mariah

While Meri was initially taken aback by her daughter’s revelation, it seems she quickly accepted the news.

“I was so worried about you not accepting your child – so proud of all of you!!” a fan commented on Meri’s recent Instagram post.

“No way! Never an issue there!” she replied.

These days, Meri often shares photos of herself with Mariah and Audrey — who got engaged in February and currently live in Chicago — on Instagram. The three snapped photos outside of Wrigley Field and a Chicago Target store in July, when Meri was in town visiting.

On Mariah’s birthday, Brown had a sweet message for her 24-year-old daughter:

“10:02 am, July 29 1995, best moment of my life! This beautiful and amazing person came into my life, and I knew a love that only a mom can know. I have loved watching her grow into such an amazing and wonderful person, loving herself and owning the person that she is. Words can’t express how proud I am of her, how amazed I am by her, or how much I love her. Thank you Mariah for being the awesome person that you are!”
