Simon Thomas’ son, 9, leaves viewers in tears as he opens up about mum’s death
Simon Thomas’ young son reduced Good Morning Britain viewers to tears as he joined his dad to speak about the impact of his mum’s death.
The pair were left devastated after wife and mum Gemma died in November 2017 just days after being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia.
Appearing on the GMB sofa to promote the ITV programme’s loneliness campaign, Ethan was asked how he was coping with his mum’s death.
He quietly told his dad: "I’m still sad but I still have you."
Sky Sports presenter Simon said: "Listen it has been hard, it has been horrendous,… in the early period it felt like time stood still."
"I think as any parent who’s [lost] another half you feel so much pain on their behalf," Simon said. "he lost years they’ve had with lose ones… I can just about deal with my own grief and pain but then i see him playing on his own."
He then quietly appeared to promise Ethan that he would on day have a a little brother or sister.
Asked about the cards that his dad left in his lunch, Ethan said: "I thought that even if I m at school i still feel like daddy is still with me."
Speaking about how school dealt with the tragedy, Ethan said: "My teaching assistant helped me because she let me make these cards so that when i feel sad or lonely I can write these cards and have some time out."
The presenter revealed that his son was back at school within a week, explaining: "I wanted to encourage him because this is the biggest thing he’s going to face."
And viewers were in tears and flocked to Twitter.
One tweeted: "@SimonThomasSky on #gmb an amazing daddy and little boy @GMB."
