In Saturday’s 15th anniversary episode of Saturday Kitchen, Matt was joined by Shivi and fellow chef Sabrina Ghayour as well as special guest Jack Savoretti. The show also featured Rick Stein to celebrate the milestone episode. But as Shivi talked BBC viewers through creating her recipe for hot wings, Matt questioned her use of rum and she hit back at him.

Showing Matt the chicken wings, Shivi explained: “We’ve marinated these overnight, and then they’re going on a baking tray on baking paper.

“Skin side down first for 20 minutes, after which time we’ll flip them over – 20 minutes again.

“The oven is 210 degrees by the way.” She added: “And after the last 20 minutes we’re going to glaze it with this delicious pineapple rum glaze.

“So this for me is a tickler for the whole tongue. It just gets all the different parts of your tongue tingly.”

“Do you try and get rum in every single recipe?” Asked Matt.

Shivi looked offended and asked: “Well is that a problem, Matt?” He replied “No, it’s not a problem!”

Sabrina chimed: “Oh, she’s feisty today,” as Matt commented: “She really is. I’m going to see if I can make it worse.”

“No don’t, leave it alone,” Sabrina added, laughing.

Shivi went on to complete her dish, the pineapple rum glazed hot wings with chilli salt watermelon and a “nearly nude” rainbow slaw.

Viewers were quick to take to Twitter to comment on how tasty the dish looked.

One said: “Looks and sounds incredible,” while another wrote: “Looks so good Shivi.”

“What a fantastically useful recipe, thank you so much for sharing,” a third said.

Another said: “Shivi not taking any of Matt’s s**t this morning on #saturdaykitchen!”

One more penned: “Shivi Ramoutar, the food looks just wow #SaturdayKitchen.”

Rick Stein joined the show to reflect on its 15 years, in which he has appeared on every single show.

When Matt asked about his stand out moments, he said: “In some ways I’m so pleased that the omelette challenge has gone.”

He continued: “We were all scared stiff of it.” Matt replied: “It’s funny, of all the quality chefs we’ve had on the show, everyone was terrified of the omelette challenge. It put the fear of God into people.”

“As I said, I’m very glad it’s gone,” Rick admitted. “I never got to practice it before I went on but I bet some of the other chefs spent hours.”

Matt commented that chefs are very competitive, with one at the time asking the specific make of the pan to practice cooking the omelette on.

Saturday Kitchen airs weekly at 10am on BBC One.
