Royal feud: Prince Charles ‘furious’ with Andrew as royal tour overshadowed

Prince Andrew released a statement yesterday evening announcing his plans to step back from royal duties. It came just days after he spoke to Emily Maitlis about his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein for BBC Newsnight and received a backlash for the interview.

Now, reflecting on Prince Andrew’s decision to step away from the spotlight, royal insider Russell Myers said he thinks Prince Charles won’t be happy with the fall out.

He told Lorraine Kelly: “Charles was, he’s in New Zealand at the moment, he was consulted as well.

“No doubt he will be furious his tour has been…”

“Scuppered,” Lorraine interjected. “No one is talking about it. You’re supposed to be there?”

Russell confirmed: “I am supposed to be there.

“We cancelled it because the absolute cascade of headlines coming out.”

Lorraine added: “And I’m sure you’re not the only journalist that’s not going to be at that tour.

“It’s a shame because it’s an important tour, he’s talking about climate change.

“Something he is very interested in,” noted Russell.

Lorraine remarked: “He must be raging.”

“We should be talking about it too,” continued Russell.

“And now, this astonishing statement that was put out.

“We’ve got Andrew saying I continue to unequivocally regret my ill-judged association with Jeffrey Epstein.”

Ahead of Lorraine’s chat show, Good Morning Britain welcomed royal biographer Ingrid Seward onto the show to comment on how Prince Andrew’s announcement with affect the monarchy.

Ingrid told hosts Ben Shephard and Susanna Reid the Queen “has always stood by” Prince Andrew and will want to protect her son.

Ingrid remarked: “She’s always stood by him, she always supported him.

“He was her second family. He was a bouncy lovely child and she has always adored him.”

Ingrid later added: “This affects her deeply.

“For a start, her husband is 98 and probably not in the best of health, so, she hasn’t got him by her.

“This is her favourite son and she wants to protect him.”

Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV at 8.30am.
