Revealed: The Affordable Gift Meghan Markle Gave Her Baby Shower Guests

Meghan Markle broke traditional royal protocol when her friends threw her a baby shower in New York City to celebrate the impending arrival of her first born child. Hosted and planned by Markle’s stylist bestie, Jessica Mulroney –the shower was held on Tuesday, Feb.19, 2019 at The Mark Hotel on NYC’s Upper East Side. Fifteen people were in attendance at the exclusive event including Serena Williams, Gayle King, and Amal Clooney.

Though the Duchess of Sussex did not plan the baby shower for herself, Markle has always been a great host, so she made sure her guests left with the perfect and very affordable baby shower favor.

Meghan Markle gave this affordable gift to her baby shower guests

Meghan Markle’s baby shower was held in the penthouse of the Mark Hotel –and just after the shower about 17 pieces of Away luggage were spotted being rolled into the hotel by one of its staff members on luggage carts. From closely examining the luggage —they appear to be the Away Carry-On, which currently retails for $225.

Though Away has only been around since 2015 — co-founders Jen Rubio and Stephanie Korey blew the lid off of the luggage industry with their chic and high-quality luggage that boasts a minimalist design for affordable prices. The Away Carry-On that Markle gifted her baby shower guests features an unbreakable shell, lifetime guarantee, and ejectable battery. Every single piece of luggage in the Away line is valued under $300. We think this was a thoughtful baby shower gift — and we’re betting Markle got them monogrammed for each of her friends.

Inside Meghan Markle’s exclusive NYC baby shower

Meghan Markle’s baby shower was a lovely event full of food and laughter. There was an array of sugar cookies, decorated with black, white, and gold icing featuring a stork, a rattle, and a bib. According to Entertainment Tonight, French chef, Jean-Georges Vongerichten –who is The Mark’s world-renowned chef prepared the food for the shower. Though we don’t know exactly was on the menu, some of Vongerichten’s signature dishes are molten chocolate cake and ginger fried rice. If guests weren’t into cookies, there was also cotton candy on hand –which Markle and Prince Harry had at their May 2018 wedding reception.

Like many of us, Markle isn’t really into traditional baby shower games. Also, her friends wanted the experience to be as lush and as stress-free as possible. Therefore, instead of that absurd game where you can’t say the word “baby” –Markle’s guests arranged flowers. A cart full of blue and pink hydrangeas was seen being rolled into the hotel ahead of the shower. An insider told BAZAAR.com,

The trip is a lovely chance to catch up with friends and spend time in a city she loves. This will be the last time a lot of them will see Meg until after the baby is born so it’s nice to share precious moments. It’s been a relaxing visit. Nothing beats face time with your friends. Meg will be flying home refreshed and relaxed-and with a lot of new baby clothes.
